DD found a vintage Hobbs coat yesterday, we both loved it, it was bottle green, longer than knee length and it was the type with a big (ish) collar that fastens with a tie belt, 100% wool, I don't remember the price now but it was in an actual vintage shop so won't have been super cheap.

Ooooh noooo! Green eyed monster activated:mad::D;)

    Well done!

Miro - I didn't actually buy the green coat, which considering how many coats I have bought recently is a blooming miracle.

My tripette to Otley today was a case of going from the sublime to the ridiculous!!!

First stop was the weird and wonderful 20p shop which today had a rail of clothing just inside the door, (it's normally all glass, china, books and magazines). Some of the clothing looked a little 'dubious' so I sailed past to look at the other stuff....found nothing of interest and sailed back towards the door when a dress caught my eye on said clothing rail. Stone coloured, fitted, knee length, fitted and with a wonky* asymmetrical neckline with some foldy* detail going on and cap sleeves - by Linea and my size. Found it on eBay, (looks much nicer in real life!)

Couldn't believe they would only charge 20p when I got to the till but they did! :j Looks unworn but now whizzing round the washing machine as I didn't want to try it on before it had a good wash.

Then on to Oxfam where I normally find very little as the stock rarely changes and is vastly overpriced imho. Boiiiiiing!!! Straight away, on the dresses rail, out jumped an L K Bennett dress in my size, black, knee length, fitted, 3/4 sleeves, also with a wonky* asymmetrical neckline but with foldy* bits just below the waistline. Gorgeous dress! Spent ages admiring the workmanship - beautifully made! Did I really need another black dress tho?? Was wishing it had been in another colour when Boiiiiiing!! just further along the rail there it was again in a purply/blue colour. Could not believe my luck so I galloped to the fitting room and this was a perfect fit.....so much so I went back and grabbed the black version too. Each dress was priced at £14.99, (original price £250), so my charity shop purse is now sadly depleted, (hope no nice pawsh wool coats come along now for a week or so!).

My last call was in to the St Gemma's Hospice 99p shop where I splashed out recklessly on an M & S cotton lightweight dressing gown in a nice light green colour - will be perfect for holidays and travel.

Miro - I particularly like the style of the LK Bennett dresses. If you went to Primark you would be spending £15 on a dress that looks dreadful after one wear and wash, these will be beautiful for a long time. I have a love hate relationship with that 20p shop, sometimes I find it rather depressing but I always have a look.

I know just what you mean!! I always carry antibacterial wipes with me when chazza shopping and strangely enough the 20p shop had a batch of them in a while ago, (still got some left I believe), and boy do I feel I need them when i come out of there. They also had a pure silk maxi sundress with a full skirt on that rail too and I was tempted to get it, not to wear but to use the silk fabric for something, but left it in the end.

Yesterday in Alnwich I got a Next oversized check shirt in shades of blues and mustards, it is quite a lot thicker than most shirts and is brushed cotton, longer at the back than the front and could be worn with jeans, leggings or just tights maybe - £3.50.

Also got the most gorgeous hand knitted jumper (:D:j:eek:), it is a lovely pumpkin colour and a really close knitted stitch if that makes sense, it has a high collar which comes into a v with 3 buttons, they don't fasten so it just looks like you've undone it, it is magnificent imo, if I can get my hands on some tweed trousers it will look fab with those - £5.

If anyone is visting that area you must call into The Salvation Army shop to marvel over their pricing. I found a M&S Cashmere jumper in grey (been after one of these for a while) for £24.50, I just couldn't believe the prices and I've seen some high ones before. The weird thing is I've been in other SA shops and the prices have been good.

Also yesterday DD got a Vintage Next skirt, Made in England, yellow wool, mini skirt, fully lined £3 and a hand knitted (she's learning) 80's style (might be original) jumper in grey £3.

I'm on the wrong side of the Yorkshire dales for Alnwick but that's the least of my problems. I'm frankly awed at your cashmere radar!

As for the teaching of the young - well, I can just boggle gently. The lads have all been suited at least once via canny cs finds & steers but they still think "want a garment, go buy new".
(Although one son did ask if we had another pair of boots in his size as the current pair was leaking - no, but once given the correct size & style, husband turned up replacements & new insoles in under 3 days!)
