Had a few hours doing the rounds yesterday and bought a few things:
    • Isle (I think this is maybe Edinburgh Woolen Mill?) navy/green tartan short dress with pockets
    • BNWT John Rocha black dress (£45) - wrong size for me but this will be offered to my sis as her LBD for Xmas works do (I think she'll love it) or sold on eBay
    • Roxy small cross-body bag in browns/greens/pinks
All the above £2.00 each from Air Ambulance (not my usual £1.00 shop)
    • Thin 100% silk scarf in buttermilk colour with hand painted red poppies at each end
    • Square 100% silk teal/cream scarf (for furoshiki)
25p and 50p from Save the Children
    • Next pinafore dress with 'V' back and front and 2 zipped pockets in a fab green/purple Prince of Wales check
    • A lovely sun glasses case in a silky purple/green iridescent psychedelic pattern
£4.99 and £1.00 from a local charity I've not heard of.
    • A pair of dark brown lined leather M&S gloves, still with the hanging tag on to fit my 'teeny-tiny hands that match my teeny-tiny feet. ;)
I found these in a box in Oxfam marked 'boys and mens gloves/hats/scarves 4 for £1). I offered 50p which was accepted. :)
    • A BNWT (£25) Topshop stretchy skirt in navy with white spots. Fancy waistband and front zip with ring pull. (might be a bit young for me). It's a bit tight so I may hold on to it as I'm now back doing my exercises or list on eBay.

£1.00 Sense. All Items were £1.00

Has anyone noticed that there seems to be a lot more men browsing in charity shops?
  • In some places that may be my lot, hauled along after us & used as pack animals & communications devices (slightly less impersonal than a text). They have become a lot better at realising books and CDs and DVDs are A Lot Cheaper in charity shops & I am hoping to wean middleson onto sourcing his own biking shirts. Gradually.

Pollycat - those are some good prices you paid. I have come to the conclusion that Yorkshire CS's are expensive, I've been watching some CS hauls on Youtube and the prices down south seem to be much cheaper, one person had bought an empty Fortnum & Mason hamper for £2, up here that would have been at least £12.

Yesterday I had a little wander around our two local towns, the charity shops were heaving. I got:

A Victorian hot water bottle complete with it's stopper £3
Regatta fleece zip through jacket in grey and black, zip pockets, this is for DS and that particular shop had all mens wear 1/2 price so £2 paid for this.

Another 1/2 price item for DS was a Hollister button neck sweatshirt in grey, lovely soft cotton that Hollister do, with various appliqued bits £2.49.

A Matalan BN bowl, red and white striped sort of 50's diner style, says sweets and snacks around the top, very large, paid £1.99 for this and it is sat in my kitchen full of snacks.

A Vintage St Michael skirt, full style, midi length, lightweight but heavy enough to drape nicely, fully lined, black with trailing leaf design in beige with a grey/blue flower, this was for DD, £2.49

A M&S wool blend pencil skirt in russett red, fully lined with mock zip pockets under the waistband £2.49.

A Next grey/brown knitted jumper dress with long fluted sleeves which have a tie between elbow and wrist, v neck £3.99

Regatta lightweight zip off walking trousers for DH £4.50

M&S blouse, says classic on the tag, I don't know if they still do this range, it is aimed at someone much older than me but I like this type of thing, it is short sleeved, duck egg blue with tiny white flowers with a black stem and a sort of grey abstract dot, it buttons all the way to the top and down the side of the buttons is two lines of pleating added on top of the main fabric iykwim - £2
Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler

    Fashion on the Ration 28/66

These were guys browsing shirts & trousers, trying coats on.
I'd not noticed before but yesterday and Friday when I popped into my 2 nearest shops, they outnumbered the ladies.

One chap asked my opinion about the coat he was trying on.
I'm not sure he appreciated my 'dressmaker-critical eye' when I told him I thought the coat had been worn by someone who'd bought a size too small and had moved the buttons (borne out by checking inside and noting where the buttons had originally been).
And I pointed out that the sleeves were slightly long (they came down to his palms) but suggested he could tuck them up. :o

No idea if he bought it in the end. I did tell him it was a good quality 100% wool coat that would probably have cost well over £150 new - and that Primark were selling similar design (but not wool) for £50.00.
  • Amidst all you very sharply turned out souls, a few of you let rip with a needle & thread on occasion. You did know the V&A have a free Mary Quant minidress pattern to download?

For those of us for whom the minidress is frankly unbecoming, the longer Georgie dress is in pattern testing & should be out in September likewise free. Fond as I am of designer labels, I may venture out & give that a go, as I can always donate it to a charity shop (with the Mary Quant designer details, naturally) if it becomes me not.

    It's here!
Just be careful to pick what size printer you have - or download the lot & then label the printouts Very Carefully.

After all, I have every confidence you could pick out a designer frock for Christmas, but this way you get to add a few possibles to the fabric stash as well...

That's not a design for me, DFV.
I loved the other pattern you posted but in this one - with the big bow:

A posh sack, but a sack nonetheless. :rotfl:
At least I know what styles suit me.

    Lovely fabric though.

    Gosh.... a bargain from Oxfam...that's a novelty!!!:p

Our local chazzas are full of returning/new students including those of the male persuasion. Mostly they seem to be looking for household items or fancy dress. Do all students now go out in groups wearing themed fancy dress at the w/e?

Been corralled at home for the last few days thanks to the big cycle race that has closed lots of roads in West and Noth Yorkshire making travel rather difficult but I did spend a whopping 25p on an unusual b/n hair scrunchie on Friday.
  • Being (very) short & round I too hesitate, but the navy with delicate polka dot fabric version (very bottom right photo) looks like something I might manage to wear - just by not tying the bow & letting the streamers flutter.

The raw courage of the pattern testers has me awed.
  • today in our local cancer research clearance shop there were a lot of last years aldi stock...jumpers/cake tins and most interesting a pile of kevin the carrot cups which are lovely for soup...£2 they also had tesco halloween kids costumes...all new but last years stock for both
    onwards and upwards

Phew, I thought for a minute you'd spent £45 on a dress in a charity shop!
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.
