It’s a nice big shop with a cafe but the prices My daughter picked up one of those measures with holes in to measure how much spaghetti to cook. I thought it would be maybe £1.99 but it was marked £9.99 and a paperback book was £3.99 Most of the prices were way too high. Very disappointing
I sometimes tot up what I would have spent if the prices were more reasonable, and wonder if the managers have any idea that the charities are losing out?
This week I have bought..
Three GB Bake off books and a Laura Ashley home decoration book I have been looking for. ( a pound for all four)
Yet ANOTHER of the cashmere scarves that are so much in abundance lately.(£1.40) (I have had to buy a hanging shoe container to store them all in)
A black lacey M&S dress with tags on and proper sleeves. (£3)
A red lacey M&S dress with tags on and short sleeves but long enough to not highlight the bingo wings. (£3) So I am sorted for Christmas outfits. :cool:0 -
I dropped a bag in at our local hospice shop and they said they couldn't take any more clothes, they did take it in the end as it was a winter coat and two winter jumpers. I can't understand why all the summer clothing isn't on a sale rail to make space, it was still priced up at £3 and upwards with October fast approaching. All the other high street retailers have seasonal sales but some charities just won't, it's like the word charity is mentioned and you are supposed to put your hand in your pocket regardless.Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler

I've noticed that Oxfam and Mind always hang on to their summer stuff for far too long and never ever have either a sale rail or any reductions. Our local community shop, hospice shop and Sue Ryder have regular half price rails or 99p rails and have a fast turnover.0 -
miro- I've never seen anything on sale in Mind and their prices are crazy. I've recently found two BNWT Next items in there that they wanted half the tag price for, Next have half price sales so you've got to do better than that plus they need to remember £15 and thereabouts is a lot for something you have no comeback with.Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler

I've been away so no time to CS hunt until this morning. Popped in to our local Sue Ryder with a bag of donations and of course found a few bargains!
A bright pink LK Bennett merino jumper in a colour the label calls 'Rosehip', but which I would call cerise. It's this one: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BNWT-LK-Bennett-Pink-Rosehip-merino-wool-jumper-Size-Xl/113762684123?hash=item1a7cc8ccdb:g:gSQAAOSwuKBc630L
£3.95. Looks unworn. 100% merino so says handwash only, but I think a delicate wash should suffice. So happy with this - it will be great for the next few months when lighter merino is perfect until it gets really cold.
A navy blue cropped cardigan by a brand called Luisa Cerano. I thought this might be a TKMaxx brand and maybe it is, but online shows it is German and VERY pricey! Cardigan is viscose/polyester; everything on their stockists websites is £2-300 (?!) - I am sure this won't have been as it's not merino or wool, but they don't seem to do anything under £100. It's a lovely cardigan for £3.75, but how anyone could justify the prices they ask is beyond me.
A padded, belted short jacket by Caldene for £5.75. There were a few of these types of jacket on sale; I could see straight away there were equestrian/country jackets. In good condition, will do well for the autumn for me.
A pair of BNWT shoes by Pavers. RRP £37.99; mine for a fiver. Plain Mary Jane's with a mid-heel; perfect for work.
A pair of what look like unworn boots by a brand called Sweet. online research reveals they could be Spanish, or an Amazon Chinese special. Their origins are mysterious but they are black, ankle length, with a wedge heel. Again, good for autumn workwear. :j0 -
Some great buys there Magpie100
First trip to Otley in a while*. In the St Gemma's 99p shop I unearthed a 'Gok Wan for Tu' dress, as new, sleeveless, fitted, in a fresh navy & white flower patterned heavy cotton with a little stretch, originally £40. Also got a pair of dark khaki straightleg jeans by M & S...was tempted to buy some from M & S early this year but could not bear to pay full price. Really pleased to find these.
Yesterday I found a nice tan coloured belt with a brushed gold buckle in the local community chazza. Looks unworn and just the right width & length for jeans. Isn't leather but looks as if it will be hardwearing so I can keep my 'best' leather belt for, err umm, 'best'
* Not been going to Otley much lately as a, what I can only describe as a 'gang', of people have been descending upon the 99p shop when the delivery van arrives, (all hanging stuff goes straight out on the rails), and they are so rude, aggressive and belligerent that the regulars get pushed and shoved aside til this 'gang' leave clutching their huge bagsful of bargains.0 -
Joules raincoat, M&S blouse, Max Mara Weekend Breton top. All looking as new but no tags. £10.All that clutter used to be money0

Picked up a couple of house bits this week. A studio pottery earthenware jug with a sheep design £2.50 and a tray for the dining table, it's a wooden one with built up sides and handles, off white and the base says Vintage Kitchen and some other writing in black, it's a modern one, the sort of thing Sainsburys Home or Matalan might do, looks lovely and is immaculate £2.99. I plan to put some decorative things in it, candlesticks maybe.Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler

Miro - appalled to hear Otley being thugged thus. Hope they pick elsewhere soon. Oxford, perhaps?!
I've been a Very lucky lass. Earlier in the week in Colne, a shelf of Langley Lucerne (11 cups, 12 saucers, a sugar bowl & a [relatively] very small teapot) for a tenner - thank you Pendleside Hospice!
Today in Chorley, the Children's Society had an Emma Bridgewater 4 mug teapot yes this one (but without the box) for £1.99. Well, not for long. My mother needs a nice teapot & a should-have-been £60 one which reviews splendidly as beautiful And functional, will do very nicely.)
And we got books & DVDs and assorted tools (Himself is crooning over a set of gauges which fold neatly back into the handle) and youngest even has a new Black Sabbath T shirt (which he has delightedly hauled straight off to wash as he's a ferociously untrusting soul in some ways.)
Eta himself found a heap of pocket fire starters (Amazon pocket fire starter), dumped in a 50 pence a pop bin, so we mopped up 17, mostly for gifts but also for scouts!0
