I once bought what I thought was a brand new purse from a charity shop and found a Princess Diana commemorative £5 coin tucked away in a hard to reach pocket. No idea what to do with it...is it real money?
Worth up to a tenner on Ebay. Up to twenty quid if it's in as new condition in the presentation box.
If it's not still in its little plastic holder, some of them sell for less than £5 on Ebay.
Whether it's spendable or not depends on where it was issued - a lot of commemorative coins are issued by Channel Islands or Isle of Man jurisdictions and not legal tender in UK.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -

Oooh thanks for that info! No box with the coin unfortunately. Will have to do some research as it's not something that really appeals to me to own...:o0 -
Unhappily, if this article is correct, the Royal Mint has pulled the rug from under these (despite still producing them) with the banks who used to accept them as five pound coins. Some Post Offices will still accept them, but you may get more from ebay etc0

A Gino d campo cookbook and a pretty glass cake plate for £1 for the 3
A Mansfield vintage Chanel style jacket for £1
A jersey top looks new in mustard from a designer called Rachel Zoe which appears to be an American brand for £3. (This was from the normal hospice shop) her tops start at about $150 eek

bobsa1 - I've seen a few coffee pots in that sort of style, they are really lovely.
Today I got a Tu pink shirt with white polkadots, rollup sleeves (or can be worn long) button down collar, will look lovely with navy or grey cardigans £3. Next soft belt in rose gold with a glittery finish but subtle rather than actual glitter on the surface, looks unworn £3 and a H&M grey herringbone scarf with a fringed edge, bit smarter than my other winter scarfs £3.
I did find a lovely Seasalt needlecord dress in my size, navy blue with a pattern on, in Oxfam priced at £14.99:eek:, they also had a Seasalt cardigan for the same price, I would have had that dress if it was £7.99.Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler

A nice week-end away in Bedale meant I hoped to 'do' the charity shops in Harrogate, Ripon and Thirsk on the way. Ha! Some blooming' bike race all but closed off the centre of Harrogate to traffic on Saturday and same again today in Ripon. Must be part of some master plan to completely decimate town centre shopping as seems to happen more and more these days for one reason or another. Anyhoo, did manage to penetrate the traffic !!!!!'s ring of steel in Ripon this morning and spotted some very nice stuff...all the usual chain chazzas but also quite a few independents. One shop had several b/n Hobbs/Jaegar/Viyella items....all lovely quality. Got a pair of smart Viyella navy straight leg trousers in some sort of heavy stretch fabric that doesn't look like stretch fabric iykwim
. £7. Must do a solo day trip to Ripon sometime soon for a really good nosy around.
Oooh...so you can't say 'm-a-f-i-a' on this site!0 -
I got my husband a dark grey jacket from the PDSA shop today. £7 so not cheap, but better than buying it new as it was in very good condition!
I did see a navy blue dress in the £1 shop but I didn't buy it. I might see if it's on there next time as it was quite nice and navy is a colour I wear a lot.0 -
Visited the new Oxfam Superstore on the outskirts of Oxford. It’s a nice big shop with a cafe but the prices My daughter picked up one of those measures with holes in to measure how much spaghetti to cook. I thought it would be maybe £1.99 but it was marked £9.99 and a paperback book was £3.99 Most of the prices were way too high. Very disappointing0
