Oxfam have just opened a new chazzer warehouse on a business park on the outskirts of Oxford, so I went for a wander around it yesterday. I do like Oxfam as an organisation, think they do brilliant work etc, know they try not to waste one single penny of the money they raise ..... but hoo boy, their charity shops are expensive. Clearly it works for them as a business model or they wouldn’t do it, and clearly I am thoroughly spoiled by the craziness which is Nettlebed And Its Amazing Technicolour Bargains. I seldom find anything worth parting with my cash for in an Oxfam shop, and their warehouse was no different.

Had a trawl around the Headington area of Oxford after that (where there are ten charity shops, almost next to each other). Bought a few bits and bobs - a microwaveable hot water bottle for £1, a brand new/sealed in cellophane tea towel with the Isle of Man TT racing circuit printed on it for 50p (a stocking filler for my biking mad son in law, who goes to the IOM every year for the racing), a brand new cardboard storage box in a pirate treasure chest design for £1, perfect for the pirate themed Christmas present I am planning for tiny grandson, and a selection of books (4 for £1) which I now have to find time to read!

Didn't take a colour swatch with you, Miro?! (Still awed at that - Blinking brilliant idea!)

Ha! This dress had a loose self-fabric belt so I did remember to take that with me. No need to liberate a paint shade card from B & Q or Wilko this time :rotfl:

Oxfam are the only charity shop I will not use, went for an interview for a shop manager in my local town, and the area manager told me they are happy to run their shops in a prime high street position at a loss to have a presence in the high street. I of course told I was not interested in the position.
Went to work for the Hospice for 18 years.

Yes, that’s the one. I didn’t see much in the way of designer stuff though (although I was momentarily tempted by a beautiful beaded Jacques Vert purple cashmere cardigan but they were asking £60 for it).

largely due to indolence but also family bickering for my time - not wholly unreasonably.
I faintly recollect a charity shop on The Plain (take the high street away from the main shopping focus & head towards student digs) doing balldresses at almost affordable amounts but that was decades ago & people have wised up a lot to second hand value. [That said, I still have my balldress, whereas the wedding thing went off to a good cause within a decade. Couldn't get into either but plan to be interred in the balldress, so many gleeful memories.]

Given the arrival of The Prom from America I am always happy to see charity shops helping the canny outface the grossly overpriced.

Local Oxfam today...boxed set of four crystal port glasses, from Debenhams, £2.99. Lovely plain classic shape, nice weight and no raised rims (!) Will be given to the 'gentleman caller' at Chrimbo. He was talked into buying a very expensive bottle of port from Grahame's Port House when we were last in Portugal and 'if' he ever gets round to opening it he will have the proper glasses in which to serve the stuff now.

Toddled on to the community chazza and found a nice M & S dress....b/n and just perfect for autumn, round necked, short sleeved and with a half peplum effect back and front. Burgundy and black dogstooth check and a perfect fit. Was going to chop orft the peplum thingy but having tried it on at home and may well leave it now. On the half price rail at £3.

Then into town to collect my free birthday candle from Hobbs :j. Do peeps know about this? Sign up for their newsletter and they give you a free candle or £20 off anything in store on your birthday. Candle came In a lovely box and then in one of their pawsh carriers...I felt very grande swanning around TkMaxx with it!!! :D
