Dd (15) is doing a gcse dt project based on the theme of a wedding. She wants to make a keepsake box and various fabric items like a fabric bouquet, grooms waistcoat, garter etc.
One of the charity shops I looked at today had one of these in!

can't remember how much (wasn't considering buying it!), but I don't think it was more than a fiver!
So as is usual with chazza shopping you just have to keep looking ....A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
Despite returning three times, the Cardiff shops didn’t lure the money from me.
Back home, viciously sleep deprived, another story! Bolton had a church sale so at 10 pence I snaffled two Yes Minister volumes and a Polartech Buff (£27 or so new from Amazon!)
Then in the children today shop in Bolton we got most of a cyclist’s wardrobe (we picked out three top quality wicking t shirts & left the rest and the padded shorts & waterproofs for someone else) and two Thelwells (driving & sailing).
(Our all time champion favourite model shop is alas closing. The proprietor has decided to retire, so through rather blurry eyes, we resupplied, stocked up, & generally bought enough to keep idle hands occupied til the new year.)
Husband added more books to our shelves, and two handsome tea towels (again 10 pence each!) so it’s been a good haul!0 -
A box of coloured chalk for DGS, for 10p. Next weekend we'll decorate the garden paths
I picked up a M&S linen blouse in my size, but put it back because it was £4.50. On investigation the prices seem to increase as you go up through the sizes. Not sure how I feel about that, but I didn't need the blouse anyway, as I'd bought it in the M&S sale for £8 last summer.I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -

I know how I feel, and I tend to either leave the shop or consider asking the assistant how this price has been arrived at. (Depends on if I really want the garment & if I can find a flaw I can fix.)
My size fluctuates quite a bit, and so I donate pretty regularly but penalising the larger size wearer in a charity shop strikes me as unnecessary & rather petty & generally indicative of a mindset I do not wish to support. Usually the volunteer staff are reasonable, but if not, good bye...0 -

Visited 3 this morning and almost came out empty handed but snagged a lovely kilner jar for 2.50 and two large overlocker threads for the same each. It's our local Hospice shop and there were people dropping off sacks as I arrived but mostly clothing.0

Did well in the local charity shop last week. Bagged two different Peppa Pig cars (complete with characters in them). One for £2 and the other for £1.50. Also another single character who is hard to come by, at 50p, an equestria girls doll for 50p. A book for £1, and another 100 piece puzzle for DD at £1 also, so DD was very happy.
And yesterday I took her to a local afternoon boot fair. Picked up a Leapfrog Read With Me Scout toy for 20p!! Fully functional, but sans books. Not that DD cares in the slightest. It responds to her petting it's head and back, and stroking it's cheek so she thinks it's wonderful! That particular stall was selling everything dirt cheap, so must have been wanting to clear space desparately!
Also picked up a complete Minions PlayDoh set for £2, and a Minnie Mouse inflatable beanbag target game thingy, for £1 (good for developing DD's hand eye coordination). And someone gave us a brand new paw patrol and cup for free. They had a stash and couldn't seem to sell them for whatever reason.
Pretty sure DD thinks it's Christmas now! lolFebruary wins: Theatre tickets0 -
I have had a very strange run of good luck with cashmere scarves in Formby.
A few weeks ago I came home with four either 100% cashmere or 70/30 mix with silk brand new (three of them) pashminas for between £2.50 and £4 pounds each.
I was delighted, and thought it was a coincidence as they were from three different shops.
I was astonished today, when in a another completely different shop I got another two 100% cashmere scarves, brand new with labels, for one pound each! :j
I think someone must have distributed their very extensive collection to several different shops in the area?
I might end up with one in every shade and colour known to mankind! :rotfl:0 -
honeythewitch - lucky you.
I popped into town to post some parcels and had 5 minutes to spare. I got a pair of BNIB tea infusers with little spoon and dip trays and an art deco lidded glass trinket bowl, genuine by the look of it and some online research but either way I don't care, paid £1 each.Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler

'Did' Otley again today.....spotted 3 interesting items but came home empty handed
First of all I saw a nice Hollister top in Oxfam in white chiffon with teeny dark pink embroidered spots. Might have been tempted had it not been priced at £5.99. Would have needed a camisole under it and thought it overpriced for this time of year.
Then, in the RSPCA (I think!) shop there was a Phase Eight dress in burgundy lace, looked as new and priced at £12.
https://www.phase-eight.com/product/sabby-lace-dress-204586463.html
Was tempted as a possible Chrimbo outfit but felt rather that the dress would have been wearing me iykwim. Now wishing I had tried it on anyhoo.
Then.....anyone know anyone looking for a wedding dress? Oxfam have an absolutely stunning one in the window. Brand new, still with tags on and originally priced at £2,000+ and Oxfam are asking £600 for it. Must be about a size 10/12, white tulle, strapless/fitted/sheath style and then kicks out into a magnificent train. Rather plain and elegant but with a stunningly detailed cut.
The chazzas now seem to be changing over their stock to winter wear and blooming' Chrimbo tat...even spotted some recycled B & H stuff:rotfl:
honeythewitch ...you will probably know this anyhoo but.... 100% cashmere is very fragile so do beware of catching rings and fingernails and snagging your Pashminas. Can't tell you how many times I have done that! The odd bit of silk in the mix really does make Pashminas so much more durable....0
