Haven't posted here for a while but inspired by others who post, I took myself to Otley yesterday - not far from me but it will be years since I last went. Seems like everyone in West Yorks had the same idea.....
Came home with a coat, new, pockets and vent still stitched up.It's a mac type, great for autumn weather, lined with a little padding, knee length and a tie belt, long zip fastening, originally Debenhams, now mine for £5.95 (BHF) - very happy with it.
Other recent bargains were a pair of Gap chino trousers that fit beautifully and a dressing table stool for DGD, both around £3.
Happy hunting!0 -
esmy - miro and myself are often in Otley. Lucky you on the chinos, I love them, I was wearing a pair of grey ones from Next yesterday, I've had them a couple of years now and paid £2.99 for them in a CS.
Nipped into our small town in the morning yesterday and came home with a pair of new lampshades, they can be used for lamps or for ceilings but I wanted them for two lamps in my dining room, they are a hessian type fabric in that lovely greige colour, one of them went on a wooden lamp base and the other is on a brushed silver Ikea base, £1.99 each - over the moon with these.
Later in the day we ventured further afield and I got 2 Adidas running vests, one in orange which is new - £3.49 and a red one for £2.50. DD got more goodies, I bought her a vintage blouse, slightly cropped length with a scalloped edge, short sleeves but still quite long due to it being an 80's style, ditsy floral print - £2.99, a Debenhams strappy slip dress in velvet, says 'Made in UK' on the label so not sure of the age of this £3.99, an Urban Outfitters long sleeved cropped top in navy with red and white stripes on the bottom £2.
Her find of the day was a pair of Liz Claiborne Lizsport range 90's trousers in khaki, super high waisted with pleats, wide legged, someone has taken them up so they are cropped on DD which looks fab, they are very land girl in style - she paid £3 for them and left them on when she tried them in the shop, she loved them that much.Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler

Quite expensive purchases today. I went to the cs whilst Dh was getting some compost and saw a lovely handbag in duck egg blue. It’s by Maria Carla and appears new. It’s shoulder strap is still wrapped up inside it and it’s dust bag was with it also. The asking price was £10 which I thought wasn’t bad. I’ve since done a little internet sloothing and it appears to be leather and is an Italian designer make. I found the same bag currently on sale for over £200. This bag is now safely in my present cupboard and will be added to DD no2 stash of gifts.
On Friday I got what I thought were a bargain pair of converse for £6 brand new, however after being shown proper converse by dd2 I’m fairly sure they are fake so will be taking them back. Dd3 was the recipient of some very nice next skinny jeans £4 and a TU cold shoulder jumper also £4. The quality of the jumper is excellent0 -
Yay for Otley!!!!!
Had to make an emergency dash to the local community chazza today. Neighbour informed me that some preserving/kilner jar thingies had been spotted and as I am in full jamming/chutneying mode at the mo, (thanks to generous friends with bounteous gardens), and I have run out of jars to contain such delights. Six medium sized jars snaffled for 10p each but minus the rubber ringy thingies - fortunately I have some replacement ones to hand. So the spiced apple chutney making can continue....much to the disgust of Monsieur Albert le chat, (he now has a French girlfriend called Fifi who lives next door). He hates the smell of hot vinegar and runs and hides in the airing cupboard!:(0 -

Would pass for new, hardback, [STRIKE]£39 on Amazon[/STRIKE] 25p in local charity shop. Not sure what charity they're actually for, or whether it's even a proper charity, but heigh-ho.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
Is there a pain as sharp as being shut out of a charity shop as it is closing? I’m in Cardiff & looking into their air ambulance shop (nothing like yours Pollycat - starting with price policy) having been rejected by Scope.
There is always tomorrow, but I did hope....0 -
From the other side of the counter we put the closed sign up at 4.30 as normal and people still keep trying to come in because people who are already in the shop when we turn the sign on the door are sometimes still in the shop at 5 and I am wanting to go home. They are always 'surprised' when we start turning off the lights and cashing up!
This morning I found a lovely Tara long sleeved tunic for £2 which will be nice as a mid weight top for this time of year as it cools down.0 -

DFV - I feel your pain.
Especially if it's a place you're visiting.0 -

Making an effort to get to a CS and finding it's closed is right up there for me...
Happened yesterday. I had made myself a plan to visit 3 shops, each with a slightly later closing time from the previous. In the end, the bus journey took longer than expected, so I gave #1 a miss, had a good browse in #2 instead and #3 was closed. It was worthwhile, though, as I came away with a vintage Hobbs skirt. £8.50 (London prices, what can I say) but worth its weight in gold to me! :j
Same shop also had a pair of BNWT Rohan women's walking trousers for £9 (attached price tag said £65). I was seriously tempted, but they were a bit too tight (not uncomfortably so, but the front looked odd) so I put them back. :A0 -
I have had a couple of purchases the last few days.
DW Home Heirloom Vine & Herbs Candle - these are an american brand sold in TK Maxx, I am fussy about candles but it was in a nice jar, a decent size candle and had a rather nice wooden lid so for £2 I gave it a go. I have lit it the last two nights and the scent is gorgeous - described as just picked vine-ripened tomatoes with crisp green mint leaf and crushed herbs - good throw and it burns evenly.
Red Herring black long sleeved top with embroidery, bell sleeves with a frill just above the elbow, super soft cotton which seems unworn to me 99p.
A hand knitted infinity scarf in a fluffy yarn which doesn't shed (I checked on my black jeans), shades of pink, yellow, blue and orange all muted tones £2.50.
A BNWT M&S Collection short sleeved knitted cotton jumper in cream with beaded stars £4.99 - pricey but I tried it on and it looked really good.
A Next sleeveless top with a drapey cowl neck but a low (ish) one iykwim £2.
One shop had a White Stuff jumper it was really lovely but they wanted £7  for it and it had stains on it, I pointed it out and they put it behind the counter for the manager, they may wash out but you don't take a chance at that price.Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler
