So pleased you asked!!! I was wondering too....never heard of this stylee before and tbh I'm not sure I quite understand it....wish the example had been in a plain fabric. Is there an extra strip of fabric either pleated or gathered into the top of the waistband? M'thinks one would have to be very, very slim to get away with that sort of look! Interesting tho0 -

Not a good look for a sub-five foot dumpy pensioner. :rotfl:
My Mam would describe it as "a bag of tatties tied round t'middle".
But I can get how that style would flatter a tall, slim person.
And I think that may be dolly84.
Am I right?0 -
The paperbag waist has fabric above the belted area which flutes out in gathers. I am a size 12, 5'10" and I think Pollycat is right that it suits taller people the best. I have two pairs of trousers in this style now and will wear them both with a plain, slim fitting top/t shirt.Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler

Hope everyone is enjoying the bank holiday sunshine! I was visiting a friend on Friday and on my way back on Saturday decided to spend a couple of hours in Buckingham checking out the charity shops. I went to 4 of them - lots of good stock - a lot more Seasalt/Boden/Fat face than in my home ones. Not really my style though I know lots of people like it. At the BHF shop they were turning away donations unless you were a Gift Aider (apparently they legally can't turn you away if you are) as they had so much stock. Probably people decluttering over the summer. I went to the RSPCA, Oxfam, BHF and Scope.
Anyway, I bought lots!
This pair of brand-new Clarks shoes for £10. Labels say £69.99, then £44.99, and as link shows they have been down to £17 in the outlet. I won't look a Clarks gift-horse in the mouth though and these are my size and will be good for work in the autumn: https://www.clarksoutlet.co.uk/p/44181070
Then this shirt for £3.99. Can't find the original price but it's The Kooples, so will be pricey. Someone has a second-hand one on ebay for £55. https://images.app.goo.gl/QUtXnGBJBLsuTLYH8
A BNWT Seasalt 'Cassandra' t-shirt. It's this one, although not this pattern: https://www.seasaltcornwall.co.uk/clothing/tops/t-shirts-tops/cassandra-organic-cotton-top-lino-sunflower-charm.htm
Tag says £35 and I paid £4.99. I might gift this as it isn't my style - on the other hand, it's 100% cotton so I could save for holidays next year.
A really pretty 'Scotch and Soda ' blouse from Maison Scotch. It's navy blue with a white pattern on. This is the type of brand and style I love but can't afford full price for! It was £5, in perfect condition.
A cream rib thin polo neck from Topshop. Immaculate condition (looks unworn). £2.50. It's hard to imagine when it is so hot but as soon as autumn comes I will use this to layer under things.
A really pretty cropped Topshop t-shirt (I will wear a vest top under it!) - floral bright pattern with scallop arm and neck lines. Totally unnecessary, but it was reduced from £3 to £1.50 and I love it.
A Land's End fleece jacket with a 'windcheck' lining. Great quality and condition. The closest I could find online is this: https://www.landsend.co.uk/Womens_Fleece_Jacket_/pp/P_39437.html?cgid=11299
But mine is fleece on the outside and lovely waffle lining on the inside. £5.99. So excited to wear this in the autumn!
A Patsy Seddon for Phase 8 linen top for £4.99. Less sure about this, but it is cool and smart enough for work. It's a muted beige/grey and perhaps a bit frumpy, but I will give it a whirl!
All i all a very satisfactory day indeed!
Happy hunting...

Love those shoes Magpie. I tried a pair of M&S black suede shoes on yesterday, block heel and that was covered in suede too and a little ankle strap, they were new and the label said £29.50 full price on the bottom, I didn't check to see if they were real suede. BHF wanted £7 for them but I couldn't decide if they fit as it was so hot at the time and my feet were hot. I did like them though.Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler

Dolly - worth a little look again later in the week when it cools down? they sound nice! I find that clarks are such good solid quality shoes that if it's a 5.5 it will generally fit me perfectly. :-)0

Up in Bedale for the long week-end so had the chance to 'do' the charity shops in Thirsk and Ripon. Seemed to be some nice quality stuff around but didn't buy much. Twas far too hot for mooching really. Saw a nice pair of brown leather Barbour sneakers in one shop window, looked new and priced at £30. (Pricy but a quick Google indicated they retail at £100+) Couldn't inspect or try on as the bloomin' shop was shut with a notice on the door saying 'Gone for lunch - back soon'. Ermm....what does 'soon' mean? 5 mins, 45 mins? Why not give a proper time of return? Anyhoo, couldn't wait
Only purchases were a couple of large kilner jars for 20p each. It's surplus garden produce time!!:o Came home with mountains of potatoes, beetroot, onions, courgettes, plums, Bramley apples, pears, rasps & wild strawberries. Looks like a mammoth chutney making session is in order this week....

I just had to pop to the doctors which is next door to the £1 charity shop so it would to not pop in. I had a browse about but the heat didn’t aid my concentration however I came across a long sleeved Breton style striped red and white top in linen. I couldn’t decide whether to get it or not and left the shop. By the time I reached the car I wanted to slap my own face it was £1 for goodness sake. Anyway I went back and bought it and it’s by a brand called chianti and Parker. A quick google shows they are quite high end and similar tops are approx £1000

The drive from Oxford to Lancashire is long for all five of us but Newcastle under Lyme had a large number of charity shops & I completed the drive with a Denby manor green tankard (ball-knob lidded) coffeepot gently tucked into the boot...
The lads raided the CDs & books thoroughly & both are apparently happy!
And as I plume myself on a nice bit of Denby, Himself strolled out with a pressure lantern spare branded spare (vaporiser with cleaning wire & spring) in packet his for a quid, website £33.95!
Two Archimedes drills a pound each & though they look delicate he assures me they’re robust little drills. Looks like this
Works like this
Eldest lugging two books and a huge grin - apparently he’s been meaning to give this Pittacus Lore series a go & the charity shop had the first volume for pennies!0
