You are so lucky having a tip re use shop..I wish all councils would do this. Where roughly do you live?

I have three near me Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire have just started up but Buckinghamshire one has been there a few years so is really established.

Buckinghamshire one is a charity one so run by volunteers who get first dibs on stuff. I'm sure it must be worthwhile volunteering there. There are enough scraps for us mere mortals though, for it still to be good. It has been that successful. It's disgusting what people through away when others in the world have so little.

I think it is a really good idea making money for the charity or council (especially when they need money for social care ect) and good re-cycling too less to go to landfill. Nigerians and East Europeans for example fill up container loads and send stuff back to their native countries.

I wish the government would do something about recycling so that even less ends up being wasted. Somebody mentioned the retailers have a second hand section or paying for the recycling - would really change things.

There bestsellers are furniture. But there is everything-records, garden tools, toys you name it.

Good Lord - what a thing to say. I would have a good rummage and it has nothing to do with being hard up, it's about making less of an impact on the environment to get what I need.

  • We have some Romanians on our estate who go searching through the litter bins on collection day. The lady from the council who is in charge of rubbish says they clean things up, like clothes and toys, and send them home to be sold. A lot of people here took exception to having their bins scrutinised but I would rather see this than perfectly reasonable things going into landfill. Wood is another thing which gets thrown away when people refit things which is perfectly re-usable and should definitely be available for repurposing.

You would be surprised there are all sorts of dealers visiting here as well as general public. Maybe yours is in a deprived area or not very well managed.

I would have a problem with people going through my bin, I think that is unacceptable but I also think it is unacceptable to throw good things away but if I found a Romanian going through my bin they would get short shrift from me.

They'd be welcome to go through my bin- I'd challenge anyone that they will only find non-recyclable rubbish in there!! (and maybe the odd bit of garden rubbish sneaked in.... naughty me!)

No, it's the fact that it's sited next to a sewer works. The smell is unbearable.

I wonder every time I visit (which is purposely limited in frequency, got away with it twice this year with another load in my garage for when the time comes).

A week has passed without setting foot in a chazzer and surprisingly I am not missing it. Perhaps I had my full dose last Saturday.
