Or you could go back get it, and take it to the alterations shop and get the bottom 3" taken off and turned into a 1" belt.

    No.
I once had a bad experience with having a maxi coat taken up.
It's not in my local area either and I'm not likely to go back before Christmas.
I made the decision yesterday to leave it for someone else.
I really don't need another wool winter coat anyway. I have 4 dressy ones plus my sheepskins (5) and numerous padded coats in various colours.
    Shouldn't be greedy. :D

I spent an enjoyable day in a market town about 30 miles away, and my companion had printed a map showing all the charity shops in the town centre. I managed to find an interesting hard-backed book on the social conditions in Britain during WWI - with some hard-to-believe photographs of children being used as slaves in the fields. Harrowing reading (sorry, pun unintended) but I am looking forward to knowing more about it all. Then I spotted a saute Crock Pot, and although I already have quite a collection of slow cookers I've always fancied this type as they are so versatile. At £15 it wasn't cheap but is my little treat to myself for the festive season. The same shop had an Oxo easy grip chopper brand new for £2 - these are £20 in M & S and Lakeland, so out of my reach in the normal way. To top it all as we left the town via the market, the veg. guys were packing up and I bought a 5lb box of mushrooms for just £1. These are now dehydrating nicely and will be a useful addition to many winter dishes. All in all a very successful day on the bargain front!

In the same shop, I did try on a fabulous dark grey Planet coat that was 78% alpaca, 22% wool in very good condition. The material was so soft.
If it had been 3" shorter I'd have snapped it up at £20.00

I'm curious about the Planet alpaca/wool coat Pollycat...it wasn't like this one was it?

Could be a jolly good buy for an eBayer!

No finds for over a week in the charity shops for me...they all seem stuffed with leopard print, lame, sequin-encrusted, strapless 'party wear' around here....oh, and the odd B & H offering of course (;))

    Hi Miro
Very much like that but with 3 buttons down the front.
    It really was fab.
The lady in the shop said if it was still there next week, she'd have it.
And I'd be happy for her to have it as I've seen her in the shop on Saturdays for a number of years and she's a really nice lady.
    I don't think she'd sell it.

I did think of you and another member (maybe Dolly... and Greyqueen?) who are tall...?
Agree with the 'Christmas party' tat. :(

Charity shops are so busy with people trying to find pressies..especially parents of young children. So many toys in excellent condition..seems a waste to buy new.

Went to a Big city to visit daughter and we had a good mooch around shops. Shelter was very expensive for some items but I got a few cookery books and a little toy for £5.

The best one was an Oxfam. Gorgeous vintage handbag for £6, topshop and m and s work clothing for my daughter my treat to her. £3 each ...not bad for the big city. Also picked up a 80s vintage necklace for £2.

Local shops have been good for old Christmas decorations and most cost less than 50p. Some glass ones and vintage little pixies etc. Also picked a very nice Gerry Weber black top trimmed with sparkle for the delightful price of £1.

May take a walk around market town this week and see what can be picked up. I have no intention being anywhere near the towns in the week before Christmas. January is usually quiet and hoping for a few £1 sales in little local ones.

Need to do a clearout and clean up so I can get Trees up in house. So I will be dropping of all unwanted to little local church shop. They always have a £1 rail which is brilliant.

DD will be eight months between now and Xmas, suddenly needing to offload more really baby bits. The second-hand Bumbo chair she no longer needs, the bigger floor gym mat etc.
She's quite dinky though compared to DS so her clothes last longer, won't be coming out of the 6-9mth stuff until at least February!!

I couldn't get a winter scarf out of my head, so decided to go back for it. I also ended up buying another claret Next scarf with furry pompom ends for my mum. Total spends: £2.
I'd handwashed both, and had loads of compliments when I wore mine today. Mum was very happy with hers, plus the new lipstick I'd bought her in a complimentary shade which she wasn't too certain about until she tried it on - it looked great on her as predicted.

Is it not you, Lucy? I have a recollection that you are nearing the 6' mark.

Only managed a quick dash into one shop today- however it was productive!
Looking for sproglet 'stocking fillers' (I hand over a mixed bag of items to my friend's daughter (the sprog!!) when they arrive before Christmas so the 3 sproglets have something to do before all the big presents appear!)

Pack of Christmas joke cards (think cracker jokes!!) and most of a pack of quiz questions- 50 pence each. Packaging looks a teeny bit used but contents are pristine.

Not from a charity shop, but a cheapie one- couldn't resist a silly sign
I can hear the sprog saying it:
"Dear Santa, Everything I want is either
    Immoral- tick
    Illegal- tick
    or
    Fattening- tick!!"
This from a slim size 8/10

Sorry, sometimes I give in to tat 'cos it makes me laugh

Tomorrow intend to get to the other 6 or 7 shops.......
Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Today has been a lovely sunny, wintery afternoon - perfect for a bimble around a few charity shops. In the BHF shop my eye was drawn to something in a gorgeous shade of purply pink on the knitwear rack. It was a large wrap with a fringe around the edges with teeny tiny crystals sewn in the join and in perfect condition....no bobbles or pulls or moth holes! Then I honed in on the 'Pure Cashmere' label, then on the 'Neiman Marcus' label and finally on the price....£5.99! Of course it came home with me. Just found the exact same thing on the NM website....priced at £246.45, (falls off chair!). :j

Sorry about the long linky. Think I will save it to wear on Christmas Day with a pair of grey tailored trousers and a cream silk shirt, (both chazza buys obs)
