Lets talk about them. Some are better than others. What is good about them at this time of year?

What is cheaper carboot, charity shop, ebay or other? I can't be bothered trawling through all the tat at a carboot. I usually get ripped off in ebay. Charity shops seem to be my best option.

What do you mean 'this time of year'?

Regarding cheapest, I think it depends what you're buying and which charity shop you're buying it from.
IME, prices in charity shops vary a massive amount.
You'd be lucky to buy a dress for less than £7.00 in BHF but in our Air Ambulance, all items are £1.00

I've never been ripped off on ebay.
But I do read the descriptions very carefully and ask questions if I need more information or clarification.
And I don't often buy clothes from ebay, although I've bought the odd pair of shoes/boots.

    I don't go to carboots.

Got a couple of things yesterday:

Cath Kidston Mug 99p- love these for a big cup of tea.

M&S Autograph fully lined trousers in navy and grey tweed type fabric, stiff fabric belt and mock pockets to back with buttons - £2.39

Golddigga acid wash top in pink with back zip and kangaroo pocket, I would never normally buy anything from this brand as it is usually very tacky but this is rather nice - £4.50 (not cheap but I really loved it).

Boden relaxed skinny jeans in mid blue £3.

DD got a Topshop slouchy camo jacket for £4.50 and a Nike black track jacket for £6, it was pricey but compared to new a good price and it looks barely worn.

Sipping from my morning mug of tea as I read this: nothing beats drinking it when its just at the right temperature :)

Yesterday I combined a walk with a chazzer-trawl. Either pickings were slim, or I was being discerning? I came away with four books, including a Malcolm Gladwell, a Frozen storybook in hardback - for when my little niece strings her phonics together and actually starts reading! - A Man Book Prize shortlister and this, which at a chunky 500 pages combines my interests of London, playwriting and social history:

I'd never actually heard of it, but the blurb on the back was "advanced praise for..." so am looking forward to reading it, eventually.

Plus a handcrafted Christmas card that was just too beautiful to resist - total haul of £1.75.

  • This morning, 8 100% cotton Christmassy place mats £1. They were packaged as two packs of 4 with the original price sticker saying they were £13.99 a pack

Would never have paid that for them. Fits well though with my scheme ( same every year - red gold green) and 100% cotton so hopefully will last years.

And two books I wanted for a while £1 for the two.

    Bexster :)

Erm, maybe not! Morrison's have delicious doughnuts and one day I succumbed! (not very waist friendly) I decided I'd have one with my mug of fruit tea, no plate (why bother??) I soon found out why a plate would have been a good idea as jam squirted all over clean clothes and the mat!! Dogs were pleased.
