Just discovered Mr Anthony Craig Lee is a Director at both Exempler Education Ltd and 3J Finance Ltd. Exemplar once told me they were two seperate companies. Have we been seriously deceived?

Not necessarily. You can have a director of 2 companies but they can still be independent (it's shareholding that is arguably more important than who is a director).

However if you have 2 companies operating in the same 'industry' with the same director there is a greater likelihood they are connected.
