Thanks both - I took it very easy, while still remembering to stand upright and do what I could (very little).  I did get out into the open air to pick blackberries, at a different green area, they're washed and open frozen and packed away now.  And I did quite a bit of work on this 2nd curtain - finished sewing the hem, and I've pinned the tape to the material.  It's been cut to size for a larger curtain, so as previously, I cut the end of, will re-do that, then tack the tape to the material.  Then I can hand it over to my sister to sew on her machine.  I've got 3 weeks for her to do that, she's away in 4 weeks.

The curtains will be the job for today, plus, if I can, a 10 minute walk to another green site, and some driving research.  Dishwasher has just finished, I just want my back healed for my next driving lesson, next Tuesday.

Hope you're feeling better soon KC. Good work on the curtain, and I love that you've been picking blackberries! I don't think ours are quite ready yet, but I don't think it'll be too long now...

Thank you both!  Cheery, I'm sure geographic location and height above sea level have a lot to do with blackberry availability - there are lots to come, mind you, round here as well.

Today: core exercises, very gentle ones from standing (which is most comfortable with my back), baking (I mixed the dry goods yesterday), finish the curtains.  And possibly a little bit of research on security, including digging out my personal alarm, the iffy neighbours have seen me talking to some nice neighbours while looking in their direction.  That's not quite as dramatic as it sounds, but they do have a rep, and better safe than sorry.

I had a pleasantly dozy weekend - a walk down the high street, a trip to some National Garden Scheme gardens, a walk to see the pig at the local school (heaven only knows why school age children have a mini-farm at school, with proper-sized farm animals, but they do).  I also arranged my Spaceflight meeting for a fortnight's time, finished the work *I* can do on the curtains (must hand over to my sister), and some easy-paced genealogy work.  The slow pace was because I had a driving lesson booked for Tuesday morning.  Which has just been cancelled, because my instructor is stuck in Spain because of the computer problems with air traffic control!  If the disintegration of this country's services doesn't get you one way, it'll get you another 🤣

    So, tomorrow:
    - finish the money shuffle, for heaven's sakes, the next one is about to start!
    - clean the shopping and clear the kitchen table.  Tomorrow morning, please!  Three deliveries are about to arrive in the next few days: Asda, Amazon and Healthy Supplies.
    - garden work, now that my back is easing up a bit.  Very easy, though, just using the lopper.

That's it!  Over to iplayer for vintage Sewing Bee 😄

They often have those "farms" in areas where the children don't get to see live animals.  They know what a pig & a cow look like but have no concept of the size of them.  I was trying to figure out when I last saw a pig & it must be decades.

One of my nephews went to a school with a farm. They had a lot of children with additional needs, and some did an animal care course instead of other lessons. It was also a nice calm place for some of them to go if necessary 😊 Nice that you can nip and see the pigs too 😊

Thanks both!  I don't think it's either of those, tbh, it's the local secondary school where actual countryside is still only 25 minutes walk away, or a 5 minute train ride.  I think its *because* the area's so rural - ie so many small towns, in a farming landscape - I think it's a link with the past occupations of the area.  There's also an agricultural college nearby (10 minutes on the train), and those are really few and far between.

I visited a farm school when I worked for Mencap though, Cheery - absolutely amazing place, I have a strong visual memory of their week old turkey chicks, and this idyllic farmyard too 🌈🌼  Mind you, badmemory - I've also been to the sort of farm school you describe in London too.  This, as I say, is the local high school - playing fields, 3 storey block of classrooms, science labs, the whole thing.  I was curious, so I ended up going to the school website - the farm dates back to 1941 and the Dig For Victory campaigns!

Anyway, here are the pig, with her wallow and her apple trees, and the sheep sheltering under the trees, it was pelting down at the time :)
