Weather looks threatening here, but I've put the towels out on the line - we'll see! Dishwasher is on too - with all that cooking, I need to keep on top of that!
Did a YG survey (took a while to go through cookie permissions, ie turning them all off), and the Happy Wheel - no free spins today, but I played through the 90p remaining of the casino awards, and succeeded in turning it into actual cash 😄 I now have £9.75 in there - another 25p and I can withdraw my original £5, and leave £5 in there to experiment with.
I may not do the Happy Wheel experiments for quite a while, the preparations for the trip are pretty big. So far:
- holiday, train (1st class, with new senior railcard) and Travelodge hotel booked.
- EHIC checked. Nobody says how it should be valid for 6 months after your return, but I've checked that, and it is, by 10 days. Passport valid till 2028. Insurance booked.
- Boots order I placed yesterday - seasickness stuff was the main thing.
- investigating mosquito net hatsI'm slightly ashamed of this
but mozzies are mentioned a *lot* in what I'm reading, and they really like me - one never-forgotten summer in Greece, I got 42 bites in one evening, which took a couple of years to fade.
- booked the trips yesterday, I'm doing 3.
- one port, I'm not taking advantage of any trips, the one I'd want is just too long, 9 hours. In another port, there are no trips offered 😄 not even boat trips. And there are no roads out of the settlement, which is on an island in any case. So quite a bit of research needed.
- also researching Iceland's contribution to space and astronomy research, for my meeting at the end of June - most people who work on lunar or Martian spacesuits do so in Iceland. Or Canada, but I'm not going there this year
Need to nab my neighbour who always looks after my property when I'm away - so handy to have him over the road

Oh, and going for regular walks is back on the agenda, as well as getting the garden tidy enough to withstand a few weeks without any attention at all. A lot of the walking is described as "strenuous" - there are few tarmacked pathways, it's all bits of lava. It'd be nice for my own needs, to be fitter, and it sounds necessary for the holiday **quivers slightly**2023: the year I get to buy a car6

Holiday sounds so exciting - Iceland is definitely on my list of places to visit. I don't blame you for the mossie hat investigations though - but maybe some insect repellant would be more subtle if you're worried about what others might think? Avon So Soft (which isn't an insect repelllant) is apparently what the British Army use as insect repellant (and of course there's more hardcore stuff containing deet out there - we still have some from our trip to Guadeloupe and occasionally use it if I think I'm likely to get bitten - I do react badly, but fortunately don't seem to be too popular with them)
Glad HW is going well for you!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Thanks madvix, one of our Norfolk rellies is going to Iceland at the same time, though the itineraries won't interact, I'm pretty sure - it certainly seems a Destination
For the hat - I'm not worried what others think, not really, I'm just playing with how I might feel - although one day I'll be in a village on my own, and if Icelanders avoid me because I look insane, I might regret thatI do have some So Soft, actually - but it's quite old, not sure it would work as a primary, but I'll take it as a backup, for sure. It still smells strongly, I tried it yesterday, could be enough. I'm gibbering - I don't think today is the day to make any decisions on that, the weekend is time enough.

Another one the mozzies love to munch on here. I went to Paris with a friend after A levels, and we were in the same hotel room. I got a myriad of mosquito bites. She got none at all. And the high pitched whining sound as they fly makes me shudder. And then the bites always flare up and I find I need to scratch them and make them bleed in order to get the gunk out....

Avon skin so soft smells disgusting but we use it as fly repellant on the neddies.

When I went to Iceland on business we had a private tour guide who was also an official translator. He told a tale of the Icelandic President telling Madeleine Albright (then 1st US Secretary of State) about the drowning pool at Thingvellir (the old parliament). To add dramatic impact he evidently grabbed her by the shoulders, almost creating an international incident as her secret service detail all snapped off their safety catches and pointed their diplomatic bag guns at him. She raised her hand to them to show it was not a problem.Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)
