Cheery_Daff said:Ooh, you've reminded me - didn't you manage to get yourself off the Pavers catalogue list a while back?? I've never even bought anything from them but am somehow on a list, and so far my attempts to be removed have been in vain! Can you remember what you tried??
Well done for opening the post!KC & Cheery - I'm with you on the unwanted catalogue frustration.
A certain store that I do actually buy from once a year in their sales, just would not take me off their mailing list, despite me explaining to them that I already get their e-mails and only buy from them once a year as they are otherwise unaffordable. No joy in over two years. In frustration, I found their founding CEO on link3din & sent her a private message - customer service contacted me & apologized for the oversite & magically I'm off the list!
In our new home, the former owners are on every old lady/man shopping catalogue list going. I called up customer service of the latest one & explained that even when I get old, I certainly won't be wearing the frumpy overpriced goods they sell - got a laugh from their rep & address removed off the mailing list!
Sometimes it takes being forceful to get simple things like that done. Too bad Giki does not have a tab for stopping unwanted paper advertising! I'd have saved oodles of CO2 by now!RT, have you registered with the Mailing Preference Service? It might help. Otherwise, I'd just RTS, Addressee unknown and hopefully they'll get the message. Not much fun though. At least you got a laugh out of the rep!
Sorry to hear about the Damart shenanigans KC, but you've reminded me to send an email to Mint Velvet, which I've never bought anything from, but who seem to have added me to their postal list - hopefully that'll stop now.RTS hasn't really worked for me either, these days - I used it last month, and the envelope boomeranged back to me! Because the post is computer-read these days, I suppose.
You've reminded me about Barclaycardin that pile of post were *two* letters from them, including an actual card, which horrified me. Because it wasn't a catalogue, I'll find another way of dealing with that.

Forgot how puritanical MSE can be! That last is p0rn - I don't know if that works - and maybe its my job, but is that offensive?

KC, sorry I see what I did there! I lecture in a linguistics department - I'm not used to the idea of any words being forbidden or censored, and I would take issue that the censorship of 'plant-p0rn' was on the basis of semantics rather than pragmatics by a dumb algorithm!
To be clear, I don't work in the adult film industry (plant-based or otherwise) I would be much better paid if I did!

Sorry Chiglepig! I'm so used to the dratted row of exclamation marks, I didn't even clock them when you wrote that originally! I agree that the policy on censorship on mse belongs safely in the 1950s, though I confess there are some words bandied about today as horrendous insults that I wouldn't like to see allowed, particularly around race and misogyny.
I didn't pick up anything about the adult film industry, fear notbut how interesting that your subject is linguistics! I'm horrendous at keeping the full meaning of words like "semantics" and "morphology" alive and well in my head, but they still fascinate me
thanks for that.

I had a huge win yesterday: 30 minutes garden work! It was all about cutting things back, so today I'm hoping to be able to cart it all round the front of the house to the green bin.
Already had another win: bought a National Trust-approved bug hotel for my sister (to order, so to speak). I bought a build your own generic nest box for me, but since it already has the nail holes drilled, it should be within even my capabilities. There are also some free activity sheets
I'm getting in early with those, the baby's only due next week

Well done on your 30 mins. I went out to cut back the jasmine today but ended up removing the passionflower (and pulling the trellis off the wall, oops) along with it's rotten dead stumps (RIP passionflower; dc has already said they want a new one!). Then I moved on to levelling the phlox. Then the skinny fuchsias needed cutting back. Then the lavender. So the humongous sideshow-bob-hairstyle jasmine didn't get touched and lives another day...
