Yes, I do tend to buy at the end of the Summer for next year, but of the three pairs I've had, they've all done five years plus of pretty hard wear, so Terry Pratchett's boot theory of economic injustice in practice! (those roman style winked at me too, but I had a new pair last year and don't need any more.
That's when I should buy, of course - I consider myself extremely fortunate to have the ones I selected, nice thick soles, leather uppers and soles, and a simple design that won't shred my toenails (which really are broken from all the ballet).  Five years is very good, Chigle, I'll take more care with this in future, my feet seem to overheat painfully during summer nowadays (arthritis?).

Gotta love a bit of SG!  We may do a bit of binge watching of L0st this evening - a bit of science fiction usually does the trick for emptying the brain of everything else
It's great, isn't it  it's so funny now to see such a young Daniel Jackson, for instance  Atlantis is wittier, very often.

This day was completely miserable!  The forecast did not say rain, so I planned to sit outside and work at the garden table while the builder repointed the kitchen.  I gave up about 1/2 hour after he started while it was still spitting!  He gave up 1/2 hour later when he was getting soaked!  He'll be back tomorrow when it's sunny - he's grumpy about working on a Saturday & I'm grumpy about sharing my garden on my day off! We'll make a fine pair
    What a pain for you!

The rest of the day was spent indoors chatting with the lovely electrician between my meetings.  It was a house full of masks & open windows - I was well impressed with his professionalism & caution regarding the indoor covid safety rules.  He also did a fine job of replacing our condemned electric box!  Will definitely be taking the time to write up a fabulous review for him on-line.
That's very good - it's what I'm concerned about with this double glazing replacement, I must say.  I'll take it as far as I can - who knows where we're going to be by the time the work could be scheduled.

I’m with SL on this. Given our data protection laws, nothing identifiable is going to be shared with anyone dodgy and the benefits to research could be huge - mass data is what the Zoe COVID study has used and has had huge impacts.

The problem is that they are going to be able to unpick the anonimity (sp) if you have anything that is at all unique.  I think it was the Guardian (usually pretty reliable) that had an article about it this morning.

I see your point badmemory and it’s certainly an individual choice. But there’s fortunately not much in my health record that’s of interest, so I’m happy to share. You can, of course, reverse your decision too (presumably at any time - for new data, obviously).

That's a really good point about the research by people such as The Alzheimer's Society needing our data.  I heard about this a few years ago, and decided to let it happen because of that very point ... in the intervening time, however, the feathering of nests that's been happening by corrupt politicians and their friends has absolutely incensed me.  Maybe I just need to let that go, I don't have anything going on that's particularly unusual - and for the issues I've really cared about (psoriasis, chronic fatigue, that sort of thing) there's been no medical help anyway, ever.  Sigh ... maybe I won't opt out.

I've really made a mistake in not keeping up with the gardening - an area I was using two months ago is completely inaccessible now, because of hip-height weeds, and the sweetpeas have formed a dense mat in front of the laurel (that will be quite nice when they flower, but it's not supposed to be like that!).  So I did 45 minutes this morning, and I'll try to do some more this evening.  Had a walk, but I'm really, really tired and it was too hot.  Always something   I'm going to carry on playing with the genealogy.

This oh definitely this.  If I thought the info was only going to dementia, cancer & similar I'd be in like a shot .  But the article I read was implying a much more open deal with much more data actually becoming available.  Obviously to those prepared to pay for it.  It concerns me that people who are ill will get inundated with "cures" & believing them to be sponsored by the NHS (because otherwise how would they know about their ailments) will be conned major style.  Paranoid?  Well maybe.  We can address this again after it has been up and running for a couple of years
