Karmacat said:...One extra thing I'm doing today: because I looked like a grumpy ghost on a selfie that we took yesterday, I'm looking at earrings for the zoom meeting, and even a bit of make up **shrieks in horror**. At the very least, concealer for the dark shadows under my eyes, and a bit of mascara. I can't present myself like that ...For now, though, lunch!
For the past 6 months working from home, the only days I bother with make-up are on video chat days! This morning OH took one look at me and asked who the important meeting was with because I'd donned a blouse and autumn blazer over my stretchy leggings! - 🤣. Most days I throw hair up in a pony-tail & t-shirt & leggings - spreadsheets & proof-reading do not need looking good for!4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! that made me laugh too! I'm really not one for makeup, never have been (unless its for a fancy dress party, count me in). But ... my hair is *so* grey, there's sagging and other thinning, and I've just realised my **eyebrows** have gone grey! And most 21st century looks have very strong eyebrows! I'm not going to go full Keira Knightley, but something needs to happen. After all, I got my ears pierced at the age of 21 because I knew I was never going to be good and regular with makeup, I'm just too lazy ...
Anyway, it turned out better than it could have done. The zoom installation was awkward, and I nearly missed the seminar because I couldn't turn the sound on, the instruction pdf I had kept referring to the volume controls on the device. Just before I gave up, I explored within the app - lo and behold, the zoom app itself was on mute. Got back into the meet, and it was brilliant. Most immediate takeaway point: those recycling bins outside supermarkets that take plastic bags also take the frozen food bags. Woo hoo! That's it, the guy actually referred to stretchy plastic
I'm a bit horrified at how much I've thrown away
after all most of the food I eat is frozen, but in general its great news. I'm going to make a quick list of recycling possibilities (there's a local group on facebook, apparently) and stick it on the fridge.

We are so lucky here in Suffolk. All our black bin (general refuse) is incinerated, providing energy that goes into the national grid. My guilt around rustly plastic has gone!Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I am at £1286.68/£3000 or 42.89% of my annual spend so far

I was thinking of you, SL, I remember you saying about the incinerator - these guys actually recycle as much as they can, then they have a loooong name for rubbish that can be reused as fuel, I can't remember it, and only 27% goes as landfill. No incineration - I get the feeling that may come, as it costs £150 to send a ton of landfill into the earth. That stood out really clearly. I was impressed with the 27% figure, I have to say. 60th out of 345 councils in the country.Neighbour at the back was sawing off the laurel that lies behind my holly tree, that I can't get to at all - her son was going to do it, but he's got an eye injury from a tree, so heaven knows. Serious stuffOtherwise, I'm having a quiet day, as we may be going back to our sandy beach tomorrow, we'll see, both me and my sister are trying to get stuff done before another covid surge hits us locally, and that entails parcels and appointments with tradesmen. Here's hoping.2023: the year I get to buy a car5

Hmm, can't say I agree about incineration - it's just contributing to air pollution and global warming.
The answer is a lot less rubbish!
Hope you make it to the seaside tomorrow Karma, and that it's not too busy! I know what you mean about making sure things are done before we end up back in some form of lockdown (whether governmentally or self-imposed).

I have just looked at those recycling figures - it was very interesting. My council has the same percentage but collects less kg per household. Which must mean we throw less stuff away & yet we count one lower than your council does. Whoever does these tables needs to have another think. But it is nice not to be anywhere near the bottom of the list isn't it? Makes those efforts worthwhile. I think in some areas the figures must be affected by the number of people who live in flats & other places where recycling is virtually impossible. We have 4 wheelie bins & I can feel myself getting a little irritated (understatement) when I go round and see hardly any paper/cardboard bins out for collection when I know all the rubbish that has come through my door in the last 3 weeks. What is wrong with people. Do they not read the stuff that comes with their council tax bill. It shows how much each type of bin costs for them to dispose of. Even if they don't want to help surely self interest, as in keeping the bill for disposal down, should have some effect. It shouldn't surprise me though as a few years ago when they were bringing all this in I was at a gathering in another area & I heard these women going on about why should they bother recycling, doing the councils job for them. I'm afraid I got a little on my high horse & said carry on with what you are doing I hope you enjoy your higher council tax bills, glad I live in a different council area. The stupid people hadn't realised that if their council had to pay less for disposal it would save them money.Rant over - sorry!4

I just don't know enough about it all to logic about places on the table, badmemory. My brain hurts even thinking about it ... call it trauma from the *awful* teaching when I was at secondary school!Madvix, yes, I'd been wondering about air pollution - do they have filters at the top of the chimneys? There used to be, I think, for coal (or maybe gas? gah, it interests me so much but drill down and I'm ignorant).Anyway, I was pleased about stretchy plastic, and the guy also said that we're one of the few councils who can recycle black plastic, trays etc. Thanks re seasidey wishes, madvix
one reason we were chuffed to find this place is that its so big, there's a huge capacity. It has toilets with *properly* hot water, and they're hardly "inside" at all, they're only two feet from the door, so that feels comparatively safe too. There aren't even any locals who walk there, its too far away from the local villages,
Anyway, I've finally caught up on my laundry, and I can't remember if I said before, but I have a flu jab on Saturday - I get it free, at my advanced ageand the live person on the other end of the phone had noticed a cancellation so she nabbed it for me (otherwise it would've been October 10th).
