Omigod, I sound grumpy ... sorry! Kind neighbours are a boon, there's so much truth in that.Anyway, today is all about finishing off cleaning the supermarket delivery. And I scoured the bookmarks on my phone, and found a really easy scone recipe to make. And now that I have more work surface, I can easily keep one section really clear, so that its very quick to get set up to bake/ rub in/ roll out2023: the year I get to buy a car4

Quite understandable to want your garden private KC! It's not something I've ever properly had, and I understand the need. Our old garden was all directly onto the pavement and it was BLISS when I managed to create a tiny little seating area behind a bit of fence. And this one has some privacy by virtue of being miles away from everywhere - but there are no fences or hedges and people basically can see all of it when walking down the footpath. An ongoing project I think. So yes, somewhere private to sit is good
Mmmmm, sconesMr Cheery has been experimenting with adding a tiny dab of mustard to his, and using yogurt but no fat/milk, and just a tiny bit of honey in place of sugar. Don't ask me for a recipe as there isn't one, he just throws things in a bowl and they turn out different every time! And I still eat them with jam
Happy scone making kc!6 -
Another one here who totally gets the need for garden privacy - with the road, foot access to the flats by our back fence and people (ie delivery drivers) coming in through the back, our back garden is definitely not very private. It’s a key requirement for our next house - peace and not being overlooked.Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Cheery, madvix, thank you so much on the privacy issue! You're very kind - it's only the one neighbour - the lady next but one sits out, with her two young children playing around her, but she's too far away to try to chat, we just waved at one another, so thats okay. I still feel a bit mean but I know I'm not really, its just privacy

Scones! Woo hoo! Well, I was in using up mode, and mystified by some things, but as an experiment they were brilliantly successful
sorry for the trumpet blowing
Too flat (plain not SR) and I left them in twice as long as I should, so rather too crunchy, but a brilliant way to use the flour I have. Amongst other ways, of course. It's this one https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/homemadescones_73976 I used 15g of dried milk with 150ml of water, and to be disgustingly honest I used a thick steel baking tray that I'd used the previous day for rosti and roasted onions
Didn't use a scone cutter, and didn't use a rolling pin, just bashed things around with my fingers. I *did* use one of those rubber in things, a semi circle of sharpish lines that mean you don't have to use your fingers to rub in. I'd make double next time, they were that easy, and stick some in the freezer. Really happy with it

Good afternoon
Oh my, a bit late even for me. Things have been done, though, some achievements have been made:
- I was out all yesterday, woo hoo, and I had a paddle in the sea, on a sandy beach - incredibly rare in my part of England (it was sandy after the tide went out, anyway).- washing machine is now on after that, to take care of all the washing.- rang GP for a flu appointment - those for the first day have gone, from tomorrow they'll be booking for October 10th, so I'll ring first thing tomorrow.- not only did I manage to join zoom on Sunday night, I also managed to tell the organisation I joined it *for*, the local u3a branch - they have an open meeting this afternoon that I really want to listen to, and they emailed me how to join zoom and how to join the individual meeting they're running on it. All installed, though its on my phone not my laptop, because I'm still running the old one. That's fine.I'll try to do another run of the washing machine, and I also have on my list emailing an elderly relative in Liverpool, and then thats the to-do list done! I wrote a really short one, it was a long-for-me, energetic day yesterday, got to be careful. One extra thing I'm doing today: because I looked like a grumpy ghost on a selfie that we took yesterday, I'm looking at earrings for the zoom meeting, and even a bit of make up **shrieks in horror**. At the very least, concealer for the dark shadows under my eyes, and a bit of mascara. I can't present myself like that ...For now, though, lunch!
