Hope the fridge freezer is sortable - my last one had one of those holes with a drain to a tray then the water evaporated too. Will you lose any freezer contents or are things salvageable?

Hope you are not still too sore from the procedure?

Thanks teapot - it died slowly, so I lost a kilo or so of frozen veg, luckily I was just reaching the end of the last lot. A lot of feta cheese is at risk :rotfl: I mean, cheese is moulded anyway, so maybe it can be eaten no matter what? Most of what's in there is nuts, seeds, quinoa, flour, that sort of thing, that won't be damaged for lack of even a week's freezing. But I do survive on frozen veg, and I don't have any at all at the moment :( the energy to cook, as well as do other things, is beyond me. I've found a repairman on checkatrade, I'm about to give him a ring (am tidying up a bit :o:o:o).

Thanks for this - I didn't take any painkillers yesterday, so it's not too bad, though even the micropore is starting to itch, and I'm doing a lot of things one-handed, then simply not doing the things that need two hands for heavy duty stuff. Stitches come out a week tomorrow.

Any hope of a claim on your house contents insurance for the spoiled food? Not sure if the small print covers that sort of thing if there hasn't been a catastrophe like prolonged power cut or flood. Sometimes the excess on the policy makes a claim a waste of time anyway:(.

So good to hear you are managing without pain killers:T. I hope you'll be feeling a lot more like 'yourself' very soon. The last thing you need is to be having all the faff of getting your freezer fixed and in the meantime being without frozen veg. Sending positive vibes for a speedy and hopefully inexpensive resolution to the problem:beer:

By the way, flour in the freezer???? Never heard of that before.
  • I clear the drain hole with a bit of value spaghetti usually. In theory the water drains to a small storage area the back of the machine and evaporates with the heat of the motor. Doesn't work so well on mine, and there is no obvious way to clear it as the tub at the back is mostly boxed in. Defrosting every so often sorts mine for a few months if poking something down the hole at the back of the salad drawer doesn't work.

Exactly, the excess is way bigger than the spoilt food, Scrimpess, its really not that bad, spoilage is only a tenner or so.

Thanks! I'm giving the freezer one last chance to work - the motor's going, I've realised I put too much in so I've taken out lots - we'll see.

It's recommended to kill any bugs, for 48 hours or so. I left it in there when I was getting the kitchen renovated, never got round to taking it out :rotfl: I'm a sloven :D

Ah! I used to have a plasticky thing that did it, but I can't find it right now. No spaggers either, but I'll find the very thin knitting needle I use to press the restart on the boiler, thanks for the reminder!

Brilliant tip! You are NOT a sloven, KC:rotfl:. I rather think I might be where flour is concerned though as I bought a much bigger bag than usual (on offer and SR not the plain that I usually use) and not having a storage container to hand once I'd opened it I just folded over the top of the bag, returned it to the cupboard and completely forgot about it. I use SR once in a blue moon. Months later:o I decided to use some and found to my horror that lots of little critters were wriggling about in it:eek:. I tossed the lot into the bin so it turned out not to be a bargain after all:(.

Thanks both - yes, definitely taking it easy. I got down low in the garden and cut some grass, quite a bit of grass actually :), various faffing - cut back some rosemary that was turning into a difficult shape - grass is easier to cut, I have almost a dozen rosemary cuttings and more drying out for use in desserts over winter. Very happy with that! Tidying like mad as well, ever so slowly :) I will be calling out the appliance repair guy tomorrow. Just going to get myself together now and have a quick walk while its still sunny, just.

Hope you are able to get the FF mended, would you eat tinned veg in the meantime or is that not an option?

I would, teapot, absolutely - I might buy some small packets of frozen veg anyway (or eats lots, like the cheap Sainsbo Basics mixed veg :D) I can cook individual portions of lentils too, and I have pickled beetroot and onions on hand. I may even hunt out whatever I dried earlier this year, though I'd rather experiment with small tit bits of that first, to safeguar again poisoning myself :D I'm calling the repair man once I've finished my cuppa :)
