Oh Karma, I feel your pain about the weeing next to the litter tray.... been there, done that (not personally, of course!). Do they have a Feliway plug in? It might help? The advice always says to take them to the vets to check it's not a health issue, but I definitely agree that it's probably the change in circumstances that's caused it :( Not sure I have any other advice to offer though - B&W cat still pees by the back door if the mood takes him (he's had a stressful day). Did their human slaves warn you that this might happen or do you think it's entirely new behaviour?
I'm sure its just stress. "I suspect they were stressed by the normal commotion of their usual humans packing and getting ready, then by their substitute human (me) coming along. I think they "held it in", so to speak too :p" as I just wrote on teapot's diary! The human slaves didn't mention it, but they *did* mention boisterous play fighting that might need to be broken up, and they were doing that last night, so I think they've calmed down again :)

Hope the wind dies down and you're able to get out at some point.
Not much, to be honest, I went out for about 40 minutes during a lull, to a local B&Q, I don't often get to one, but it was just a casual destination, really. *Very* good value bay bushes - I might try to buy one of those when I get home.

We once had a rescue cat that wouldn't use a litter tray to save his life. All our cats have had access to the outdoors via a catflap though. One terrible night of gales he just wouldn't venture out of the flap and was obviously needing the loo. He wandered around the house wailing despite there being a clean litter tray available (and which he knew how to use after having one at the Rescue Centre) but never had done since he had freedom to roam when we adopted him. We eventually discovered that he'd climbed into the bath and peed near the plughole:rotfl:. Smart cat or what????
Awww! My own cats went that route - they wouldn't go out in a terrible storm, exactly! They were never clever enough to discover how to use the bath, though, thats brilliant :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I once saw a clip on a TV programme, the Pets do the funniest things kind of show. There was cat who used to straddle the seat of a normal toilet and do the necessary that way:eek:. Whether it had been trained to do it I don't know but as the owner of many cats over my life I never managed to 'train' them to do anything much at all:rotfl:. I did litter train them but they were never interested in using a litter tray. One used to jump into a clean tray and play, scattering the litter all over the place. In all areas of their lives it was their way or no way;)

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Yep, the image is unusual, isn't it :D
They still seem fine, no problems at all (though, the way they cower as I walk past them would make you think I'd been beating them :( but they've always done that, 3 years now. They had a hard life).

I've seen that toilet clip, I think, SL, its astonishing, isn't it. The only thing I ever trained my cats not to do was not to jump up on the kitchen surfaces. I had a hob set into the surface, and I was sure they'd set themselves on fire if I let them :( Plus there's the minor issue of hygiene ;) though I dealt with that by never, ever having any food or utensils on my surfaces, rather than on plates or chopping boards. Just in case :rotfl:

I'm another one who hates changing litter trays. In the House of Many Cats we used to have more litter trays than cats but even that wasn't good enough. One of my little charmers regularly does a 'dirty protest' right in front of the litter tray. She has been known to come in from the garden especially.

Hope the wind has dropped off for you now.

Hope Kitty Wee sorts him/herself out soon. When Squeaky Cat used to do this it was cos she developed cystitis and it was playing up. Vet reckoned she went to tray, weed, it was sore, she linked that to the tray and tried weeing somewhere else to see if that wouldn't hurt. She was sorted after a short while, when she was about 12, by being on very expensive food for the rest of her life. She lived to 21 !!!!

My brothers cat never used a litter tray and only went outside so they eventually got rid of it (the tray not the cat :rotfl:). When he got really old he once went in the bath. Clever cat, much easier go clean up. Other than that he never toileted in the house.

My 3 generally used go rush in from our garden to use the litter tray. Very occasionally we would see Fat Cat have an outside wee. She always looked like she was really enjoying it but knew it was kinda 'naughty' :o

Daisy, I love the idea of a cat rushing in from the garden to use the litter tray, thats just perfect :rotfl: cats are amazing, aren't they! My own only used a tray after one of them developed diabetes, although even when they were young, they occasionally quaked at the idea of going out in a rainstorm :rotfl:

redofromstart, yeah, its not a pleasant job, is it! Since my last go-round here, though, they've bought a super duper scooper :rotfl: it's much easier to use than the previous thing.

They're clear of it now, my present charges :) and they're snoring happily upstairs :)

I think you can train (amenable) cats to use the toilet, but I've also read that the toxoplasmosis that they may carry can get into the waterways and be harmful to otters etc. :( So back to shovelling litter it is....

I, too, have a kitty who will run in from the garden to use the litter tray.... especially after I've just emptied it - he does love a 'fresh bowl' (a la Ally McBeal)!

Hope you're having a good day Karma - unusual for you not to check it - hopefully you're off gallivanting!

    omg fresh bowls :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

No worries for me, madvix - I was taking the daytime really, plus writing a long email to a teacher of mine  whose daughter popped up on a feed of mine! Then one of the cats threw up the biggest hairball I've ever seen. I need to check that there are grooming brushes in the flat somewhere. Plus I was being really quiet so that I had the energy to go to the underground farm this evening. And I did it :j

I took loads of photos, and used the note facility on my phone as much as I could. I came away from that whole thing bouncing with joy! It's a very permacultural organisation - substrate is carpet offcuts! And the "buildings" aren't old tube lines, exactly, but old tunnels built under tube lines, not used as air raid shelters till the V2 rockets, I think the guy said. But one set of tunnels *was* used for the Windrush immigrants, poor things.

Lots of thoughts about it all! And the implications for even a domestic practice, like any of us might do at home - I've tended to think of raw veg containers from supermarkets as being pretty ideal for hydroponics growing. But with one thing and another, it really looks like the holder of the growing medium needs to be completely flat, and sturdy enough to be washed. The supermarket punnets will do, if I ever get them going, but if its going to be a regular thing, I'll have to think again. I have some ideas, actually :)

Anyway, orf to Bedfordshire now. Sleep well all :)
