If you are below the tax threshhold you don't just have the £1k interest to take untaxed, but also another £5k. Well it isn't untaxed but is taxed at 0%, which may make it slip under peoples radar.

So personal allowance £11850 less normal income of £10850, leaves £1k of personal allowance to cover first £1k of untaxed interest, plus £5k low income taxable interest interest at 0% plus £1k at 0% that basic rate tax payers get.

Or personal allowance £11850 less normal income of £13850 = minus £2k. So £3k of untaxed interest left of the £5k plus the £1k all basic rate payers get.

That sounds great, thanks for that :j

Afternoon all :) it felt like I started today quite late, though I didn't really, and nearly all of it has been consumed by housework/ tidying/ putting the shopping away. Ridiculous! Though every time I go upstairs, I take a few kitchen gizmos with me, so I don't need to make special journeys to move the kitchen equipment :) At least I've also done SB and YG. but that really is all.

I hate days like this where you feel like you haven't got anything done and it's lunch time! Good idea with the kitchen moving. I am itching to get back into the garden and will have to do little and often there too.

Yep, me too! I'm up earlier, which always feels better, and I'm starting to surface to face the day :D

Thanks SL, thats a great article! I need explanations like that, that unpack every single number. To my shame, I've never been to that website :o

Essentials to do today, are to check the bank account, and then open the post - actions may need to be taken *from* that, of course. Planning the rest of the day comes after that.

Thanks apple! It was fine, thanks. I do get quite bored by anything in the house :o so I haven't kept close account of what I've been doing, but I need to think back:
    - bank account was fine, the credit card has definitely been paid.
    - washing machine on - tried to line dry it.
    - a *lot* of stuff out to the recycling - stacking it so it doesn't fall all over the bin takes forever.
    - gathered a *lot* of stalks and leaves together and chopped them enough to get them into the green bin. Some of the garlic in containers was overwhelmed with the stalks and whatnot, and the poor little bulbs are suffering. Hopefully now they'll do better.
    - tidied up the computer like crazy, getting ready to back it up tomorrow.

To me, tidying up the computer = turning it off and giving it a quick wipe with a duster...!

That too! But putting documents and pictures from camera and phone in the right place, plus checking the defragger and the Disk Cleanup. Ready for backing up tomorrow :)

Darn it, you just reminded me i didn't put the recycling out!!

Oh well, too late now. In the old days i would have nipped out in my nightie but now it requires retrieving recycling from the shed where it's been sitting since I forgot to put it out a fortnight ago, and then wheel barrowing it to the end of the drive :rotfl: not a chance now sadly so the bin men will have another wasted trip down our lane, oh dear :o:o

Sounds like you've had a productive day! :j
