Have fun LL , sounds like u’ve had a good day. Beats the weather here!
  • I've decided I must officially be old, I've bought a mop. I've always cleaned the floors on my hands and knees with a nice bucket of water, scrubbing brush and cloth. I looked at it today and decided to buy a mop. Do you think that might be the official start of old age?

I use a steamer and it works so well, even dried on dropped sauce or fallen coffee ground, it zips through it all. i have used so many mops and different cleaning solutions and nothing has ever worked as well as the steamer. the cloth attached to the steamer is just tossed in the washing machine. it is one of my best investments as it stopped me rushing out and changing the tiles for a little while as the colour is not to my taste but they are gleaming. i use a mop to dry the excess moisture then if needed. My knee would not tolerate it, even know with the cold weather it is a dull ache.

Speaking of money saviing tips around the house i use methylated spirits to clean mirrors, radiators and right messes. There was the artistic attempts of a child or seriously untalented adult who lived here before, in permanent marker! it cleaned it off so well. I spent a fortune and buckets of elbow grease till i discovered.

I have been wearing make up daily and finding it makes me feel better, more pulled together. I don't need to do a load but making an effort is really uplifting. A bit of lipstick, blusher and highlighter is slapped on while catching up with the news. I feel that it helps a little but this time of year is though with the dark mornings and nights drawn in. I only see light as i drive to work and it goes on till February.

A steam mop for me too, I always spray a bit of mutli purpose cleaner down first, Mr Murscle or something similar
  • Sounds like steam mops are popular. I've just always found it satisfying to get down there and scrub the floor, sort of therapeutic. Maybe as a Catholic I'm used to being on my knees? We do a lot of kneeling and getting up and down in Mass so maybe it is good for the joins.

I've washed my hair and styled it and it is looking good, it won't stay that way as it badly needs a cut but I'm determined to let it grow a bit and then go to someone recommended and get it totally restyled. I think growing it a bit will give her more scope. I should have had it cut a few weeks ago but I want to leave it till January. Will have to see if I can last.

It is a very miserable morning here, really dark and raining so I don't think I'm going anywhere. I've put a wash on, stripped the beds but need to remake them and then I'm going to sit down with a mince pie and a cuppa and try to finish my library book as it is due back in a couple of days.

Hope everyone is feeling well and this cold damp weather isn't doing too much damage to knees.

I always feel the floor is properly clean when I do that BUT my DH hates to see me do it so he does the cleaning instead. :D He has a mop but just one of those with the microfibre heads. I must tell him about steam mops he'll be made up.

DH has always done our cleaning since we were both working full time. I think he finds it therapeutic. A few years ago we were at a family event and my brothers, nephew and DH were all in conversation about their vacuum cleaners. To listen to them discussing all the features and performance sounded like an episode of Top Gear.:rotfl:

I had a lovely evening out last night. A group of us had booked a pre Christmas meal as we thought if we went early enough we'd get in before the standard of food and service drops for the festive period. A couple of friends had the full turkey and trimmings but I was happy with the regular menu.

I wore my Zara maxi dress.

As it's button through I left the bottom buttons open and wore leggings and black suede boots underneath for a warm layer.

Not sure about today. I'm meant to have a massage and facial but there's some confusion over the Groupon so I've called them to confirm before I go but had to leave a message.

My nails are growing back nicely so my plan is to have shellac again next week. I must make an appointment for eyebrow wax and tint too.

It's miserable, wet and grey here too humpty. I'm making myself keep going as it would be so easy to hide away. Dancing tonight so that usually lifts the spirits. Talking of spirits;), thanks for the heads up on Sainsbury's. I generally buy all my wine on the 25% off deals. Very mse.:money:
  • maman your husband sounds lovely. My husband is disabled so he can't do any housework, long ago when we were newly weds we used to blitz the house together on a Saturday morning so we could relax and enjoy the rest of the weekend. That seems a very distant memory now.

    Enjoy your wine.
  • Hello Ladies,

I had myself a really good evening last night. I treated myself to a 3 course meal deal in Streatham Pizza Express for £13.95 and I had a bottle of sparkling water with my meal. I have lots of Pizza Express gift cards I bought earlier in the year to use up, so it was a very delicious, affordable meal for me. :D

I followed the meal by watching the film Sorry To Bother You at Odeon Streatham for £5 as it was a a Screen Unseen showing. I really enjoyed this quirky dark comedy. I would give it 9/10 :T

The washing machine engineer came out today and had a look at my new washing machine, but of course it did not make that weird grating sound with an empty drum when he tried it on a 14 minute quick wash. :( Tomorrow when I am doing another load of washing I will take a video of the washing machine in action and email it to the shop so that they can hear the noise for themselves. They are quite prepared to swap it for another washing machine if I am still unsatisfied with the performance of the one in my home. :)

Humpty I applaud you for only now giving in and buying a mop. :D I could never be bothered to get down on my hands and knees and scrub floors as an adult as it was one of the chores I loathed as a child/teenager and vowed never to do again when I had the choice as an adult.

I am having a lazy evening at home tonight. My younger son is coming for a visit tonight which I am really looking forward to. :D
  • I have to confess I looked at the floor in the kitchen today and nearly got down on my knees. I think it might be a hard habit to break.
