Hi everyone,
Thanks for the birthday wishes. Have had a fairly busy day but puting my feet up now and waiting on the Prosecco arriving later!
Made a creamy mushroom sauce to go with the steaks DH is making later. It was supposed to rain all day but it has been fine since about 11am so Ollie got his walk - not that he deserved it after eating my card.
Going to do a few comps now.

Happy International Women's Day all!
INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY 2019
Campaign theme is #BalanceforBetter
A balanced world is a better world. How can you help forge a more
gender-balanced world?
Celebrate women's achievement. Raise awareness against bias.
Take action for equality.
International Women's Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating
the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of
women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender
parity.
International Women's Day (IWD) has occurred for well over a
century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a
million people in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland.
Prior to this the Socialist Party of America, United Kingdom's
Suffragists and Suffragettes, and further groups campaigned for
women's equality.
Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere.
IWD is not country, group or organization specific.
Make IWD your day - everyday.

Lol - also found the following article re women's public toilets - so
relieved (:p) I wasn't around in those days!
The History of Women’s Public Toilets in Britain
by Claudia Elphick
We take single-sex public toilets for granted today. It is hard to
believe that when public conveniences were first constructed, the
vast majority of these toilets were just for men.
The story in Britain starts in 1851, as the Great Exhibition show-
cased the first public flushing toilet, created by George Jennings,
who was a plumber from Brighton. The popularity of this invention
was such that the first public lavatories opened the following year
and were known as ‘Public Waiting Rooms’. The vast majority of
these were men’s conveniences.
In the mid-19th century, many areas of life were sex-segregated
and gendered; the private sphere was for the women, the public
sphere was for men. Whilst working-class women did undertake
plenty of work, they did not own their own wages, their husbands
did. The popular image of a woman was the ‘Angel in the House’
ideal, a woman who was devoted and submissive to her husband.
In Victorian Britain, most public toilets were designed for men. Of
course, this affected women’s ability to leave the home, as women
who wished to travel had to plan their route to include areas where
they could relieve themselves. Thus, women never travelled much
further than where family and friends resided. This is often called
the ‘urinary leash’, as women could only go so far as their bladders
would allow them.
This lack of access to toilets impeded women’s access to public
spaces as there were no women’s toilets in the work place or
anywhere else in public ..... [Cont'd] >>>

Wow Alfie so agree with you would not have wanted to have lived in the time of ‘The Public Waiting Rooms’.
Having said that most public toilets around our areas have all closed.
At least even though there’s a long way to go Women have come a long way.
Not windy today. Neighbours have had a panel of their fence down. Our thirty year old fence is still ok.
Hope everyone is well. Goodluck with the comps this week.0 -
Today, the Friday after Ash Wednesday, is Kissing Friday.
On this day in Britain, schoolboys were entitled to kiss girls without
fear of punishment, a custom that lasted until the mid 20th century.
If the girl refused, the boys were allowed to pinch her bottom!
Kissing Friday
by Ellen Castelow
The Friday after Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday is Kissing
Friday.
Kissing Friday?
You may wonder why you haven’t heard of this strange custom.
This could be because it has now died out, but until the mid-20th
century, on this day a schoolboy could kiss a girl without fear of a
slap or a telling off! Unthinkable nowadays, but the custom was
especially popular in the Victorian and Edwardian era.
If the boys wanted to the kiss the girls, first of all they had to
catch them! Some boys would tie ropes across the street: the girls
would have to pay for passage past the rope with a kiss. Others
would simply chase the girls until they caught them. Indeed,
Kissing Friday was the one day in the year when schoolgirls were
allowed to leave school early, in order to avoid being chased home
by the boys.
In the village of Sileby in Leicestershire the day was known as
‘Nippy Hug Day’. Here, if the girl did resist a kiss, the boy was
allowed to pinch her bottom, an action known as ‘lousing’, a
curious – and slightly disturbing – reference to pinching off lice.
In parts of Cumbria, the day was known as ‘Nippy Lug Day’: yes,
bizarrely the aim was to pinch each others ears!
