:hello: Good morning all
Haven't got a clue what's happening with the weather today!
Managed to get out this morning for forest walk & took brolly
just in case. Pleased I did because it started to rain half way
through the walk! Yet by the time I reached home the sun
was shining again.
It's still shining away now but I can see black clouds on the
horizon - think it's going to be a quite mixed weather day
today with a touch of everything!
Had a cracking good day gardening yesterday, got down
& dirty! :rotfl::rotfl: Decided to remove a couple more
ancient shrubs - took me all afternoon just to do one, but
got there in the end. :j
^^^ I've got one of these hanging in the house, courtesy of
my kids! They know me so well!
It's raining again now so removal of second ancient shrub
may have to be postponed until tomorrow.Last day of February and only won £1. Only 2 wins this year and the other one was £2 so not got much luck. Wonder what I have done to upset the Comping Fairy!
Must get on.
sheils x
I must have upset the Comping Fairy horrendously then
sheils! I've been sent to Coventry big time!:rotfl:
Good luck to everyone doing end of month comps & good
luck to mefor next month & beyond! :j
Have a lovely Thursday all.

Looking forward to getting out gardening today, going

up too much resistance.
Still on the Welsh theme - found the following article this
morning ......
Another article from our archive...The Discovery of America - by a
Welsh Prince?
According to Welsh legend, Prince Madog ab Owain Gwynedd set
sail from Wales in 1170, sailed west and is said to have landed in
what is now Alabama in the USA...
The discovery of America… by a Welsh Prince?
by Ben Johnson
In fourteen hundred and ninety-two
Columbus sailed the ocean blue.
Whilst it was generally believed that Columbus was the first
European to discover America in 1492, it is now well known that
Viking explorers reached parts of the east coast of Canada around
1100 and that Icelandic Leif Erikson’s Vinland may have been an
area that is now part of the United States. What is less well known
is that a Welshman may have followed in Erikson’s footsteps, this
time bringing settlers with him to Mobile Bay in modern day
Alabama.
According to Welsh legend, that man was Prince Madog ab Owain
Gwynedd.
A Welsh poem of the 15th century tells how Prince Madoc sailed
away in 10 ships and discovered America. The account of the
discovery of America by a Welsh prince, whether truth or myth,
was apparently used by Queen Elizabeth I as evidence to the
British claim to America during its territorial struggles with Spain.
So who was this Welsh Prince and did he really discover America
before Columbus? [Cont'd] >>>

whatever your plans.

Happy St David’s Day. Means Spring is definitely nearly here.
Alfie very interesting about the Welsh prince dont remember ever hearing that before.
Raining here this morning. I managed to go to the coop between showers yesterday. On the way to the checkout I spotted a display of Kit Kat. Thought yes i’ll have a packed if those. We haven’t had chocolate for ages. Turned out to be chunky Kit Kat. Why do they keep messing with things. Made husband laugh when I said don’t throw away the wrappers. It says you can win something.
Hope everyone has a good beginning of the month.0 -
Morning,Happy St David’s Day, everything sweet seems to be chunky nowadays leanfun. Son and GF love them but i am not keen. Weather is nice here today after all the wind and rain we had yesterday. Just been food shopping so time to catch up with comps. Hope you all have a lucky day0

Dull here but quiet this morning.
Very strange here yesterday no WiFi or TV from mid day until just now. It’s back on in time for DHs footie.
Yesterday I made it to the chemists to collect DHs prescription. Since the one around the corner closed it was too far for me to walk yesterday. So I spread my germs on the bus. Bought a couple of bits of shopping and struggled home. DH sorted out his tablets and found one packet said 56 on the outside but had 28 inside. He’s then on the phone and they say they want to see the box. Well I told him I’m not going back again. However I did manage to buy some Simple Linctus from the pharmacy there. Friend used to swear by it so hope it might ease the cough, which is not painful anymore but still there.
Hope everyone has a good weekend.0 -
:hello: Hi all
Take 2: Bummer! Just typed a fairly lengthy post & it
suddenly disappeared! Ho hum! Think old lappy's playing up
again!
I'll be saving this one as I go!
Well, I've had a fairly busy day here - early morning walk then
out gardening for a good part of the day. Came back indoors
late afternoon - it was starting to feel chilly outside so thought
it best to call it a day. Still, I managed to get a fair bit done
plus it seems we're due a wet n' windy day tomorrow,
so doubt I'll be out gardening.
Thinking about it, could be the tail end of Storm Freya (due
tomorrow). What a contrast to February's weather though!
Must have been really strange leanfun without WiFi or TV.Bet
DH was happy when TV came back, just in the nick of time for
his football. :footie:
Such a shame that the chemist just round the corner from you
has closed. Think it's terrible there were only 28 tablets in pack,
even though there should have been 56!Surely someone
in the pharmacy should (hopefully) be reprimanded for that!
Absolutely disgraceful! Hope the Linctus eases the cough. xx
Suppose I'd better get on with some comping now, just
about managing to keep up with them all ... sort of!:rotfl:
Have a lovely evening all, take care.
Alfie xxxMILITARY WIVES CHOIRSHELP for HEROES0 -
Morning, that's terrible about the tablets leanfun, and to travel all that distance as well. Can you not get a chemist to deliver to you.I seem to remember an ad on tv talking about delivering to your home but can't remember what it's called.
We have had rain and winds all night, have checked fences and they are still up,It is the tail end of Freya Alfie so it should blow over later today.
Hope you all have a good day.0 -
:hello: Good morning all & happy Sunday
Yep - it's definitely raining this morning.Seems we're
going to have a mix of rain/(sunshine???) for some parts of
the day - think most of the wind was during the night. Had
better get out & check that everything's still in place!
Birds are joyous little souls at the mo though, I can hear
them all chirping away!Happy days for all the worm/
grub loving birdies! They're in for a feast!
World Wildlife Day will be celebrated in 2019 under the theme “Life
below water: for people and planet"
The ocean contains nearly 200,000 identified species, but actual
numbers may be in the millions. Globally, the market value of
marine and coastal resources and industries is estimated at US$3
trillion per year, about 5% of global GDP. Over three billion people
depend on marine and coastal biodiversity for their livelihoods.
Marine wildlife has sustained human civilization and development
for millennia, from providing food and nourishment, to material for
handicraft and construction. It has also enriched our lives
culturally, spiritually, and recreationally in different ways.
The capacity of life below water to provide these services is
severely impacted, as our planet’s oceans and the species that live
within it are under assault from an onslaught of threats. As much
as 40% of the ocean is now heavily affected by the most
significant and direct threat of over exploitation of marine species
as well as other threats such as pollution, loss of coastal habitats
and climate change. These threats have a strong impact on the
lives and livelihoods of those who depend on marine ecosystem
services, particularly women and men in coastal communities.
This is the first World Wildlife Day to focus on life below water. It is
a great opportunity to raise awareness about the breathtaking
diversity of marine life, the crucial importance of marine species to
human development, and how we can make sure it will continue to
provide these services for future generations.

Have a lovely Sunday all and please take care, whatever
your plans.

Hi all :hello:
Yay! It's finally brightened up here .... for the moment! Not sure
how long it'll last though!
Forgot to include the following article this morning - I had no
idea. _pale_
Bethnal Green Tube Disaster
by Brian Penn
On 17th December 2017, a memorial was unveiled to mark the
worst civilian disaster of World War II. It also represented the
greatest single loss of life on the tube system, but curiously didn’t
involve a train or vehicle of any description.
On 3rd March 1943, an air-raid warning sounded and locals raced
for cover at Bethnal Green tube station. Confusion and panic
conspired to trap hundreds on the staircase entrance. In the crush
that ensued, 173 were killed including 62 children with over 60
injured.
My Mum was 16 years old at the time; her education long since
curtailed, she was working in a factory bottling disinfectant. The
family home was at 12 Type Street, a five minute walk from the
tube station. People were initially banned from using the tube to
shelter from air raids. Authorities feared a siege mentality and
disruption of troop movements. So people had to rely on
conventional brick buildings or the woefully inadequate Anderson
shelters. Rules were eventually relaxed as the tube became a safe
haven for thousands of Londoners.
Bethnal Green tube was built in 1939 as part of the Central Line
eastern extension. It soon became a subterranean environment
with a canteen and library serving residents. People bickered over
the best spots like tourists fighting over a sunbed. Weddings and
parties were commonplace as the tube quietly worked its way into
people’s daily routine. Dinners were half eaten and bodies half
washed when the siren went off and everyone bolted for the tube.
The picture above shows just how relaxed and comfortable people
felt on the underground. My Mum is in the centre eating a
sandwich; to the left, looking unbearably cool in a turban is my
Aunt Ivy; while on the right, knitting needles in hand is my Aunt
Jinny. Just behind Mum to the left is my Nanny Jane. Grandad Alf
(not in picture) was a veteran of the Great War, but with lungs
wrecked by a gas attack was unable to serve in WWII. He was
instead employed as a carman on the London, Midland and
Scottish Railway.
The weather had been surprisingly mild for March, although it
had been raining that day. The Blitz had finished a year
previously, but the allies had bombed Berlin and reprisal attacks
were expected.... [Cont'd] >>>
