:hello: Good morning everyone
Phew! Had a busy time gardening yesterday, thankfully it was
sunny & pleasantly warm (for this time of year).Started to
clear out a couple of fairly large shrubs - although think I'll
have my work cut out today - have to dig out the roots, which
won't be such an easy job!
Welcome back sheils, your break away sounds wonderful.
Loved the sound of the walk you took with DS3 along Loch
Fiskally & also your stop at Aberdour on the way home.
So sorry to hear that you're now poorly too chocolatelover.
Hope chest infection clears up soon. ((Hugs)) xxx I'm sure
I heard something yesterday about a particularly nasty virus
presently doing the rounds in the UK. _pale_
Hope you're ok rose. xx
Lol fire**fly, I can also recommend Aunt Bessies roast spuds!
They're another godsend! When my family come to stay I'll
happily cook my own spuds, (which they all love) but when I
fancy a roast dinner when they're not here, I always use Aunt
Bessies, saves on all the faffing around and very tasty they are
too!
Must admit, I found the hedgehog poem really touching,
particularly as their numbers have been drastically dwindling
these past few years. _pale_  It also ties in nicely with
Hedgehog Awareness Week, 2019 .....
Hedgehog Awareness Week runs from 5th – 11th May 2019 and
hedgehoggy events are being organised all around the country!
Hedgehog Awareness Week is organised by the British Hedgehog
Preservation Society (BHPS) and takes place every year. It aims to
highlight the problems hedgehogs face and how you can help
them. This year the Charity is asking people to make a space for
hedgehogs to live in their garden, this could be in the form of a log
pile or wild area (that will also provide a buffet of creepy crawlies)
or a more formal hedgehog home. The Society has a free
downloadable plan for building a hedgehog home on their website:
There are many other simple things we can all do to help
hedgehogs:
Make sure there are CD case sized gaps in boundary fences and
walls to allow easy passage.
Move piles of rubbish to a new site before burning it.
Check areas carefully before mowing or strimming.
Ensure netting is kept at a safe height.
Check compost heaps before digging the fork in.
Stop or reduce the amount of pesticides and poisons used.
Cover drains or deep holes.
Ensure there is an easy route out of ponds & pools.
BHPS Chief Executive, Fay Vass, said “We would love to see what
you have done for Hedgehogs during the week. Send us pictures
of the from the event you organise or of the hedgehog space you
create, and if you are on social media do use #hedgehogweek! It’s
a great excuse to get the kids away from their screens and out in
to the garden, get them to create a sign declaring your garden a
Hedgehog Friendly Space or maybe a name plaque for the
hedgehog home!”
BHPS is hoping to raise £1,000 during Hedgehog Awareness Week
2019, You can donate to the 2019 #hedgehogweek appeal at
https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/HAW19
Leaflets and posters are available on the Charity’s website
https://www.britishhedgehogs.org.uk or they can post copies out on
request.

Have a lovely & lucky Wednesday all and please take care,
whatever your plans.

Morning, nice day here today. Suns in and out but it's not cold and no rain is forecast. I was up most of the night as son's GF was throwing up so she seems to have the sickness bug that is going around now. Son had it over the weekend, just hoping i don't get it. They had a floor at work on shutdown as the bug was going through the residents and it's only just opened again after 2 weeks. Hopefully it will disapear soon for this year.
I am going out in garden soon to finish painting fence, that i started last year but didn't get finished.lol
Hope you all have a lucky day0 -
:hello: Good morning everyone
Hope you're all ok.It was a beautiful weather day yesterday &
set to be similar for the next few days.
I spent most of the day gardening & managed to dig up one
shrub root but think I'll have to call on lovely neighbour to
help me deal with the other one, it's determined to stay
put!
Gave the lawns a light cut & also tackled a very old (& fairly
ugly) climber too, managed to unravel it from the old (but
sturdy) trellis, using various means! Also found loads of
old spider nests lurking behind the plant .... or 'thought'
they were old, until I spotted a spider scuttling out - must
admit - it looked to me like a Black Widow! I knew it
wasn't ... but at the time .... _pale_ :rotfl::rotfl: Anyhow,
that's another job done & dusted. :j :T
The sickness bug sounds horrendous indie!Hope you don't
get it. There's so many nasty bugs doing the rounds at the
moment! _pale_
Have a lovely day all, take care & keep well. xx

National NestBox Week is an established part of the ornithological
calendar. Running for a week from 14 February each year, National
Nest Box Week provides a welcome focus on nesting birds and
encourages everyone to put up nest boxes in their local area in
order to support the conservation of our breeding birds. National
Nest Box Week was established and developed by BTO and
Britain’s leading birdcare specialist Jacobi Jayne. It takes place at a
time when tradition has it that small birds pair up ahead of the
breeding season.
Whether you’re a family with space for a box in your garden, a
teacher, a member of a local wildlife group, or you belong to a bird
club and could organise a work party, National Nest Box Week
gives you the chance to contribute to the conservation effort in the
UK whilst giving you the pleasure of observing any breeding birds
that you attract to your garden.... [Cont'd] >>>

Happy Valentine's Day! Discover the history behind the most
romantic day of the year...
The history of the St. Valentine’s Day celebrations appears to have
its roots in a pagan fertility festival known as Lupercalia.
Celebrated in ancient Rome between 13 – 15 February, the festival
is said to have involved lots of naked folk running through the
streets spanking the backsides of young women with leather
whips, supposedly to improve their fertility.
Like many of the old pagan festivals, the early Christian Church
appears to have highjacked the celebrations, sanitised and then
reissued them with a certain amount of shall we say ‘spin’. In the
two centuries that followed the death of Christ, at least two
separate accounts record how early Christian martyrs, all
apparently called Valentine (or, in latin Valentinus), met with their
ends on 14th February.... [Cont'd] >>>

Vinegar Valentines: Snakes, Drunks And A Dose Of Vitriol.
Valentine's cards were not always about love, hearts and flowers -
Vinegar Valentines raised insult to an art form...
Vinegar Valentines: Snakes, Drunks And A Dose Of Vitriol
by Miriam Bibby
It’s always tricky negotiating St Valentine’s Day etiquette. Take, for
example, a recent cartoon showing an irate recipient of flowers,
chocs and a giant Valentine’s Day card berating her boyfriend
because she was on a new diet, allergic to flowers and the card
wasn’t produced sustainably. One could argue that a celebration of
lurve based on the beheading of a Roman soldier was always going
to be problematic…
El Paso Zoo’s recent answer to this was to embrace the darker side
of the day with an offer to the public to name the zoo’s
cockroaches after their ex’s, before watching them being fed to a
meerkat live on Facebook. It’s a long way from the “Roses are red,
violets are blue” greetings card clich!, and it seems a bit harsh on
the poor cockroaches, who are nothing more than innocent
bystanders in all of this. However, there’s nothing new about the
“My Nasty Valentine” theme; and it all began in the 1840s, with
the rise of the Vinegar Valentine card.... [Cont'd] >>>

Evening all!
Had a really nice day here as sun shone nicely.
Had my morning cuppa out of a mug like this one - DH made it for me.
Cooked a Beef Stroganoff for dinner with a lime cheesecake for dessert and had a bottle of Cava so enjoyed Valentines Day!

Morning. Weather this week has been brilliant here. We had a great time with GKs but it’s tiring. DS flew back to Glasgow yesterday evening with them. They are spending the day there before they go home.
Sorry to hear your son was so ill Chocolatelover. Hope you recover soon.
Indie hope you don’t get the sickness bug. Pleased to hear your two are better.
Hi Rose pleased to hear you are well. Have a great time catching up with your friend..
Sheils great you had a lovely Loch walk with your DS3. Spring is on its way. We saw a lot of crocuses in local park yesterday.
Alfie take care with those deep roots. Asking neighbour sounds a good idea.
Firefly well done on win. Lo re Aunt Bessie. I went to coop no Yorkshire puds. Had to go back for something and they were restocking fridge with them. Just remembered a couple of years ago when we were down with DS we had an aunt Bessie apple crumble and delicious it was.
Next week GS who lives half an hour away is on half term and we have him for four days. Need a restful weekend.
Good luck everyone.0 -
:hello: Good morning everyone
It's another beautiful sunny day here, although we had a
bit of a pea souper first thing.Managed to get my early forest
walk in though & there were quite a few dog walkers about, even
though the fog was fairly thick.
Sounds as if you had a brilliant week with GKs leanfun, even
though a little tiring. Have a lovely restful weekend before
GS comes to stay with you next week.Yes, spring is most
definitely in the air, lots of little plants springing to life now! :j
Think puddy cat's ignoring me at the moment - I managed to
swiftly apply spot-on Advantage to the back of her neck early
this morning & she was most displeased! Gave me 'the look'
& strutted off!:rotfl:
Lovely to 'see' you rose, have a wonderful time this evening
with your friend & enjoy the vino!
Pleased that your son's gf is over the sickness bug indie, as
