Morning,
Been having nice sunny weather here - warm for November so can't complain.
Got some nice hotels booked yesterday. Wifi went off for over an hour while they were changing me to Infinity when I was looking at them so panic then! Booked mainly for April (Village Hotels) and 2 nights March (IHG) . Hopeful there might be something I want in IHGs point sale which will start on Monday at 5pm. Got a few thousand points ready to spend on February breaks if there is.
Leanfun it was"Outlander"I was watching not "Outnumbered" although I agree "Outnumbered" was good. Big fan of Sam Heughan from "Outlander" and he comes from this area.
Agree about the cleaning of big houses indie but we needed the space!
Hope you aren't having any more problems with your lappy Alfie.
Have a lovely weekend all.

Morning, it's different if you have a large family sheils but only having a son didn't warrant a big house. The ones i were talking about were huge with 7 bedrooms and 3 lounges, lol.my house would probably fit in one of the rooms. Well done on booking some nice breaks next year, hope you get a few more on monday. It's raining here today, just took a look at my plant pots and all the spring bulbs are coming up and rose bush has buds on again. Just shows how mild the weather has been.Hope you all have a lovely weekend.0

Morning fine rain here so far.
It’s DSs 40th today. He came home last night and we are going to up to town to meet the DDs then having lunch. DS is then going to some comedy gig. Ho ho youngest 40.
Indie I did smile about bigger house on hill and cleaning. Driving up from Dover to Canterbury there’s a very big mansion on a hill set back from the road. It was on the market years ago for £5 million. I said to DH he could buy that for us! Bearing in mind our house cost £5 thousand. Just think of all the rooms and cleaning. For ages when we drove past I used to say you never bought me that house.
Not watched outlander Sheils. I’d better get new glasses.
Hope you all have a good weekend. Be lucky.0 -
:hello: Good morning everyone
I hope you're all ok on this glorious day!
I agree with everyone, can't believe how mild it's been! I'm
loving the weather at the mo. :j
Belated 40th birthday greetings to your DS leanfun! _party_ Hope
you all had a great day yesterday and he had a brilliant time at
the comedy gig. :T
Today it's ....
Stir-up Sunday
The ultimate guide to Stir-up Sunday 2018
Sunday, 25 November 2018 is ‘Stir-up Sunday’, so put on your
apron and gather family or friends to make a Christmas pudding.
It’s the day when wishes are said to come true, so get stirring!
What is Stir-up Sunday?
It is a tradition that harks back to Victorian times when the family
would gather together to stir the Christmas pudding five weeks
before Christmas. The opening words of the Book Of Common
Prayer, used on the last Sunday before Advent, reads: "Stir up, we
beseech thee, O Lord, the wills of thy faithful people," so the
tradition stands that this is the day to get stirring!
The Stir-up traditions
Christmas pudding would traditionally contain 13 ingredients to
represent Jesus and his disciples.
It is traditionally stirred (while making a wish) by each member of
the family from East to West, to remember the Wise Men that
visited Jesus in the Nativity Story.
The customary garnish of holly represented the crown of thorns.
Be warned: the holly berry is very toxic, so instead adorn your
Christmas pud with fake foliage!
Adding coins, originally charms, to the pud was said to bring luck if
you found them in your portion on Christmas Day. The traditional
lucky charms were a silver coin for wealth, a wishbone for luck, a
thimble for thrift, a ring for marriage, and an anchor for safe
harbour. Biting down on such a thing would surely cause a trip to
the dentist with a cracked tooth,so we don't recommend this.
Where does Christmas pudding come from?
There is speculation about the origins of Christmas pudding. It is
said to have been mentioned first in 1858, in Anthony Trollope’s
Doctor Thorne, although its beginnings apparently go back
hundreds of years.
In the Middle Ages, a Christmas porridge called Frumenty was
popular and may be a savoury ancestor of the Christmas pudding.
The recipe evolved over the years into plum pudding, containing
dried fruits, eggs, breadcrumbs, and beers or spirits to increase its
shelf life. In the 19th century, Prince Albert declared his love for
the Christmas pudding and made it fashionable – it was at this
time that it became a Christmas staple.

My mum always used to make the Christmas pud every year,
as did my mum-in-law. (My sister-in-law still does). Any left-
overs (after Xmas day) were sliced, fried, sprinkled with sugar
& served up with a dollop of custard. Happy days!
Must admit, I've can't ever remember making one and
prefer to buy little ones & heat them up in the microwave, so
much easier nowadays. Also, prefer to save them for Boxing
Day pud, as we're always too stuffed after Christmas dinner,
& usually 'try' to opt for something lighter.
Christmas is fast approaching! :j :rudolf:
Have a lovely Sunday all and please take care whatever your
plans.

Morning. Fine here so far. DS did comment how cold it was here when he arrived on a Friday. We are usually much warmer than the Kent coast.
DS seemed to enjoy his birthday and going up to town. We met DD1 at Waterloo and walked across to Covent Garden. Had a very nice Indian lunch
The Christmas lights were lovely around there. Many were very simple but so effective. DS was very pleased with the WiFi ear phones I won a while ago. DH and I had not realised you can use them to make calls as well and have your phone in your pocket or bag. Less risk of having phone snatched.
Alfie thanks for the stir day info. Very interesting. I’ve never made a pudding. Years ago I made traditional cake. Like you it’s bought and in microwave.
Take care everyone. Hugs for anyone needing one.0 -
:hello: Good morning everyone
Hope you've all had a lovely weekend, can't believe it's already
Monday - the weeks are really flying by now!
Think the following sounds wonderful ...
Christmas Tree Festivals
Where: Countrywide
When: Late November and December
Time: Times vary - usually daylight hours
Over the last few years, the occurrence of the Christmas Tree
Festival has spread rapidly throughout the UK. Twenty years ago,
they were barely heard of but now they are located all over the
country from Aberdeen to Zennor (literally!), usually inside
churches and happening during late November and December. All
areas seem to have at least a few and the churches concerned can
be any size; often the festivals have a competitive element,
perhaps with trees sponsored by local businesses and
organisations. Some will have a different theme each year, but this
isn’t universal, and some will have a relatively small number of
trees while others will have literally dozens; many will have
musical and other entertainments in the building at intervals while
the festival runs. However, while the way they are organised is
diverse, they all have the basic element of a display of decorated
trees arranged for visitors to enjoy, and usually have collections in
aid of charity. Most are open to the public for set times over a
period of a few days. These events are a popular way of bringing
communities together in the period leading up to Christmas.
Helpful Hints
Our local church now has a festival each year – at Corbridge there
are many and varied trees in St Andrew’s Church making a very
festive display. In 2018 the Corbridge festival runs from Friday
30th November to Monday 3rd December. Admission is free but
donations are welcome.
Check your local press for details of festivals or head to this
website to find a display near you:

Have a lovely & lucky day all and please take care whatever
your plans.

Morning all,
Looks like we are going to have another nice day before the wind and rain hits us tomorrow which looks set to last until Friday. Lots of things needing done in the house anyway (the result of not being here often, I know!) Nothing booked until the 16th Dec so must get on with things.
Glad your DS had a good birthday leanfun. Great you could meet up.
Don't like Xmas pudd or Xmas cake and neither do any of the family except DH so he seldom gets any. Sometimes I remember to buy a little one but usually he is full up and it gets eaten months later.
We had a Xmas tree festival in our local church the other year Alfie, don't know if we are having one this year. I'm afraid I'm not really getting into the Xmas mood this year. I should really as next year we might be on our own for Xmas as DD will be a nurse and her BF will be a fireman probably in Edinburgh area. Will maybe think of going to Sydney as DS1 is the only one who gets a decent holiday at Xmas!
Anyway, good luck to all.
