  • We are boosted. Was actually a pleasant morning in a different town centre. The girl has had her second one this evening so she will now be able to do access her covid pass.

The theatre trip I planned with the smallest has been cancelled. There was another production he might like, but I will leave it until the day for last minute tickets I think. So many productions are having to cancel. Me and the girl are due to see one on Tuesday, so far all ok, but what will be will be I suppose.

Right now hubby is helping the girl with the written captions on her portfolio. She struggles a bit with writing about her work, she finds it awkward. Once this is done it will be submitted 😱 she is realising how hard applying for an arts place can be, her friends applying for some academic subjects submitted applications and have already had offers (grade dependant) no interviews needed. Difference is, that once she has an offer the grades needed will be low so no stress there (unless she full on flunks!) Just all the stress between now and around March.

Breeder we got our cats from has some kittens and we were very tempted. But can't justify the cost now, may save up and get one from a future litter. Our two boys bring us joy everyday and we are so glad we got them, another would be well received by everyone. But they are an expensive breed......

I will be around next week, but will probably take a social media break over Xmas.

Congrats on getting the jab. Good that your DH is helping DD. Hope it all works out for her.

I can't imagine having 2 cats never mind more... One pet is enough for me right now although they can be ultra soft when they want to be.

  • The girl had an acceptance from one of the unis! It is her last choice and tbh she doesn't want to go there, but she got in on her application and portfolio alone. So proud of her.

Less proud of the boy, who is determined to be a complete idiot and push us to the brink with his completely unacceptable behaviour 🙄 he is one more argument away from me taking his Xmas present back to the shop. This past two years have been super tough on young people, but he cannot use it as an excuse for his current behaviour.

The smalls are doing ok though.

Me and the girl went into London and saw two shows. Finally got to see Heather's (one of my favourite films of the 80's) the girl loved it and would love to see it again, I enjoyed it, but not one to revisit. I definitely preferred the film. I managed to get rush tickets to see the woman in black in the evening. That was a change of pace! Thoroughly enjoyed it, but I wasn't too scared. Someone behind us was absolutely terrified though. Which made me laugh 😂 it was very tense.

So far we are all covid clear (have been testing regularly) so looks like we will have people over on Xmas day. I did the food shop today so we are all prepared. A couple of presents left to wrap, but otherwise we are all good. Money all looking good atm too. Will see how that looks on the other side though!

I am probably going to take a Xmas break from the forum (and social media) until the new year now though.

    Happy Xmas everyone.

    Happy new year!

Been about but trying to take a bit of a social media break. Not sure that worked. Anyway am enjoying the last couple of days off before mayhem with school and work restarts.

I need to finish up the year with my church role. Not convinced it has gone well and am unsure I am the right person for the role. Problem is there is no one else. I think I will do one more year and then step back. There is a lot of change going on within our church and other local ones and the role may actually become defunct, but the amount of time it has taken has been immense, not the easy role I was promised, I feel a little hoodwinked tbh which isn't a nice feeling. Especially as the person who talked me into it has moved away. For a volunteer role I have been easily spending two hours a week on it. Hum, lots of thinking to be done.

Hubby has been talking about doing some healthier eating. We have both put on a lot of weight these past two years. Problem is I hate cooking, and with six people who are all fussy eaters/have intolerance issues it is very difficult to find something that the majority will eat. We are still working our way through the Xmas chocolate (told him we had far too much!) But will be hitting the recipe books and websites I think.

Overall Xmas was nice. People came on Xmas day, but we gave a timescale and my sister was good at ensuring that they left on the dot which prompted my mum to leave too. We went to the in-laws on the 29th for a couple if days, relaxed and had fun. I got some money which I am saving towards a possible trip later in the year, and some other nice bits. Hubby liked his present too.

Anyway off to take the decorations down now. Get my front room back to normal.

  • Good Morning @Drawingaline and happy New Year to you :)

Glad to hear you had a lovely Christmas and that the relatives left on time. My family are scattered all over the place so we tend to meet up outside of Christmas rather than at Christmas.

Volunteering roles are a bit tricky - I do a bit myself and two of the main committee members are looking to step down so I fear our group will fold as no one else is likely to take up the reins which is a shame.

Enjoy taking the decs down - took ours down last night. Going to enjoy the free space while we can as we normally end up with bikes in the living room. Defo not what I want but access to them is very tricky in the garden ie lots of outside stairs mean access is difficult and there is no where out front to keep them. :(

Volunteering can eat time but theoretically is good for MH. I suppose it depends on the role. Hope you find the right balance.

Glad you had a good break.

Yes the role is a challenge and I already volunteer somewhere else which I love.

It's such a tricky one, but I definitely feel one more year then step back. I will raise it at the next meeting I think. Atm it is just hanging over me which doesn't feel nice.

I suppose - if you really don't enjoy it - I would be tempted to give them 3 months notice rather than a whole year - or even a month... You probably wouldn't give a year's notice for a paid role - why do it for a volunteer one?

Because of where we are as a church atm I would rather give them the year to see if someone else will come forward, it may be a redundant role by then anyway, which is my hope.
