  • Last uni looked at. The girl wasn't overly impressed tbh. She said she could go there and probably get on fine, but it won't make her top two choices. It's on her UCAS form as her last course.

U as form is now with the college so they can do their bits. We had a long chat about where she would go if she had an open choice and no financial constraints. She straight away said the first uni we looked at. So as long as she gets in that decision is made. She will be closer to us, and I feel she will be very happy there, but it is going to cost us more! We will manage it though.

Otherwise things are just ticking along nicely. Be blinds came and have been hung. Really like them. The boy managed to break his bed. Typically I no longer have a car big enough to fit a bed base in, and there was absolutely nothing on marketplace or eBay. Decided to just buy a new one. We only need the base so managed to get one for £90. Hopefully he won't break this one.

Plasterer is coming tomorrow so our hall will finally be finished. I also need to start sorting our room out. New furniture comes just before Xmas, atm there is no room for it 🤦

Glad uni choices are settled and the blinds are as expected. Ouch to the broken bed - but good you could afford a new one... It will be great when the plasterer is done too. It's all been go, go, go for you recently. Not surprised you've struggled to sort stuff ready for new furniture.

  • New bedroom furniture order cancelled and refunded 😡 shipping delay if o er six months. Don't like it that much! So now I am having a proper hissy fit abut they whole thing and will probably settle on getting a delivery from 1kea instead. I found some on made I really really like, but they are just so expensive and I feel that with everything going up and expensive uni costs down the road they just wouldn't be worth it.

Hubby got paid. Everything sorted in ynab. Overspending on Xmas, but waiting for money from mil and mum so will be ok in a couple of weeks.

I also have 1k saved towards a holiday. Going to pause saving for that now and start saving to go back up to Scotland with the girl next summer.

Xmas is nearly done. All big presents bought, found something for hubby. I am asking for money as there are so many show I want to see. Going to try for rush tickets I think, will line some date up in Feb. Just need to sort some stocking bits and some books and clothes for the boy.

  • I have been so bad at updating!

The girl put in her uni application and is now deep into sorting a portfolio and has one interview lined up in the new year. She also had a picture in an exhibition in London, so her and a friend (who also had a picture up) traveled there on Thursday to view it. Exciting! It was a very low key one, and I don't think it was difficult to enter be picked, but still a boost. Her pictures she took for a local group are now up in the town centre too. It's been a big term for her.

The boy has failed his first btec assignment 🙄 his whole attitude absolutely stinks atm, but as the hubby said, he will probably end up just getting some sort of full time job when he hits 18. He is so lazy, but tbh it's not the end of the world, hubby did it this way, has taken longer to get where he is, but he is now on very good money and we'll respected in his company. However I would like the boy to actually pass his btec!

In laws are visiting this weekend which is lovely. Since they moved we have definitely seen more of them. Getting the wall bed was a brilliant idea of mine as it means fil is happy to stay.

Money wise I have spent way too much on Xmas. I am feeling very very flat atm. I seem to be eating and spending my feelings. Not great. There is a small balance on the cc, but I am reigning it in and have some low key things planned for Xmas hols. I have two whole weeks off from both jobs which I can't wait for. We already have quite a busy Jan, so need to ensure we can afford to do everything.

Anyway will attempt to keep this better updated, but may take a couple of weeks break from the entire forum over Xmas.

  • Oh but I have to share the wierd ones parents eve. Everyone loves him, so positive, even though he possibly won't pass many GCSE's, the art teacher said she would be happy for him to do art GCSE and they can adapt the final project and assist him as much as possible. (Art is his second favourite lesson) and he has gone up two levels in maths, maths teacher shared his last two assessments I was amazed! She knows how he learns, says he has found the bit of maths that he is best at and I actually have hope that if he can develop this bit it will carry him though the bits he isn't so good at. It's quite a relief as I always knew he would be ok once he found his thing.

Glad weird one had good parents evening.

Great your daughter is feeling more motivated. Getting her work exhibited is fab.

Sorry you are feeling flat. It's been a hard few years for many of us.

  • I spoke too soon. The girl and I had a bit of a shouting match this morning. She is never her best in the mornings and is super tired, but I hate the backchat and everyone having to work to her schedule. Also I am really stressed about her uni application and portfolio. If you hadn't guessed I like to be in control, and I have absolutely no control over this, it's worse than when I applied to uni!!! Insomnia is back a bit, I had a good run, but when my sinus flare up started, I began to wake earlier and earlier.

Anyway she has apparently sorted her portfolio and it will be ready to be submitted in time.for two of the unis. The other hasn't asked yet, but she has an interview date for them already.

The boy failed another part of his btec, but the overall feedback was positive and it was because he left a piece out rather than the whole thing being rubbish so he will resubmit that in Jan. He is busy doing another assignment due in later this week, he actually has about three paragraphs done so that is an improvement!

In financial news someone rear ended my shiny new car 😭😭😭 cracked bumper and knackered parking sensor. If it had been my old car would have laughed it off and left it, but it's 8 months old! The other driver is fully insured as am I, so am going through this process now. Spent a decade driving old cars, no accidents at all, two months in with a brand new one......it was their fault though, I had to brake sharply for safety reasons (on coming traffic at a pinch point) and they didn't leave enough distance. Luckily her car got off very lightly, and I will get a courtesy car when it goes in for repairs so won't cost anything now, but no doubt my premiums will go up in April 🙄 will increase what I save towards it from Jan. It is more the absolute faff getting it sorted. Had to take it to the garage for a quote this morning and they said wil probably be after Xmas as it is drivable.

Mine and hubby's booster jabs are booked for sat. Couldn't book them at our local centre as we have still not received our invite through the gp. Even though I know loads of people in the next bracket down who have. Gave up waiting after the announcement that it will open to everyone and have booked it at a pharmacy about half hour away. Which I wanted to avoid. The last sat before Xmas, in a town I have never driven to, where I don't know the parking. With two autistic children. What fun! But I want it done. The girl has her second dose at the local centre sat Eve, the boy hasn't had an invite, but he had covid so has to wait anyway. I also need to find the NHS letter the wierd one was sent saying he was eligible for two doses (no idea why though?!) But may have thrown it out....

Otherwise we are all just plodding on. Can't wait for two weeks off tbh

Not surprised you can't wait for 2 weeks off. That's a lot going on. You're doing great and sound like a normal parent to me. Good that the boy's results are salvageable. Sounds like your DD is overloaded. I get both sides of that equation...
