And some really great recipes in it.

I would post it but I'm not allowed too, looked for a internet link but can't find one.

Its well worth buying this month:D

Thanks for the tip! I love their recipe database, just found a nice recipe for neck of lamb casserole. I read last months at the hairdressers!

Like many of you, I looooove reading through all the 'sneaky ways to save the pennies' and similar threads.
There are lots of great tips, and I always think to myself, 'that's a good idea, I'll use that', but don't always remember all of them.
I just wondered if anyone has favourite ones that they found here, that have made a real difference.

I do lots of them, but 2 that have stuck in my mind that I do use regularly are:

Freezing any condiments that won't get used up and I now have lots of wee bags in the freezer with cubes of ginger, harissa, lemon juice etc. ready to hand rather than growing fur and being chucked.

Using the net bags from onions etc for mucky scrubbing jobs, like cleaning bikes, budgie's cage and then binning them.

(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...

Definitly Thriftlady's building blocks for the freezer for me.
Sometimes not moving backwards is as much an achievement as moving forwards is on other times. (originally posted by kidcat)

It's only a bargain if you were going to buy it anyway!
  • Hi Rosie :)

The thread on great tips/one liners is an excellent resource. I too freeze bits and pieces in ice cubes, and always make sure i use up stuff before it goes past its best!

Ill think if there are any more tips that stand out. I'll merge this later for you

You'll get the free heat whether you open the oven door or not, if you leave the door shut it will just leak out more slowly.

My oven is gas but has an electric fan. So if I leave the door open it cools down quicker and save me money on electric.

And stops me being driving mad by the noise:rotfl:

When the meat or fish counter is reducing food ( sausages, lamb chops, stewing meat/spare ribs but there is only enough for one portion buy it anyway and wait until there is more of the same to ` marry` the portions up. This way I have enough to feed everyone although spent very little on them.
