I use Tescos 38p for 500ml value anti bac, lasts me ages and has a nice citrus smell that my littlest likes. :)

All soap is anti-bacterial, paying any extra for "anti-bacterial" is just a con. They may kill more species of bacteria but I doubt this is significant or needed in 'normal' domestic situations.

It's amazing how much washing up liquid you waste by giving a big bottle a squeeze into the bowl. Nearly always I find more comes out than I really need. Now I reuse a pump action hand wash or hand cream bottle, wash it out when it's empty and refill with washing up liquid to keep by the sink. Then instead of giving a big bottle a random squeeze, I can pump out a measured amount and know exactly how much I'm using. It really makes a big bottle go further. :D

Thats a really good idea - I dont use much at all in fact I am about to buy my 2nd bottle of the year :D but this is down to having a dishwasher (how very un OS :o) and when I do do dishes by hand (so as not to use the DW too much or if I have any large pots like my stockpot) I use one of those scourer type brushes that you put the liquid in the handle of :D

i'm the same as elf, i hardly ever buy it as have dishwasher. but it a good tip.

elf tbh a dishwasher i find uses so much less water than if i was buy hand. in a way although it not old style as it uses less water it does save money. My dishwasher washes a whole load on 13 liters of water. some washing bowls can hold about 10 liters. and you sometimes have to change it a couple of times if really greasey / yucky . and then you need water for rinsing your plates and cutlery off etc.

When you buy a new bottle of washing up liquid put half in the old bottle. Add a tablespoon of soda crystals and a teaspoon of salt to each and top up with water. Give it a good shake. Lasts twice as long and really works.

lol. well i only know mine uses so little as when my gorgeous beloved smeg slimline went to dishwasher heaven i wasn't going to get new one. after a couple of weeks i realised i was using so much water, so i went on a mission to find a dishwasher that washed using about the same water as one washing up bowl. i couldn't find one at the time. but i was pretty impressed with my beko one and it didn't cost very much either.
  • I like the idea of decanting wul into a soap dispenser, might try this. Sounds dead easy, and will save some money! :)
