Cream of Tartar removes burnt on bits on the cooker and saucepans. Either apply and rub or make into a paste. I think I got this from one of those Reader's Digest things.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

Home-made laundry detergent. There's a recipe here:
http://www.gaia-exchange.sunmaia.net/laundrygloop.htm
Although the one I used had equal quantities of soda crystals and borax. The inclusion of borax means that it has real stain-shifting qualities but it doesn't produce any soap-suds unlike the version without it. A note of caution: if you make the version with borax you MUST ensure that all the grated soap, soda crystals and borax are fully dissolved before it cools or the mixture will separate. I use about 100 ml dissolved in warm water per laundry-load.0 -
Stardrops is my fave! I used to spend pounds on Cif & the like to clean the cooker - let alone the hours & arm ache I used to get ..... now I spray it on after I've made a cuppa - go drink the cuppa (while posting here lol) - go wipe the cooker - job done!
Oo now this excites me, where do I get stardrops from please?
I know it will say in one of the threads but I dont have tiem to trawl through them all
Is there a thread dedicated to stardrops btw? One that tells you what to add to it and for what jobs?
Thanks

I make my gloop by putting 1 ltr of water in a pan with i bar of grated soap. i wait until all the soap has dissolved (dont leave it cos it boils over easily). Then i take it off the heat and let it stand for a few mins to cool down a bit. I then add 1 cup of soda crystals, 1/2 cup of vim (thought it was the same as borax when i bought it) and a huge squeeze of stardrops. Then I make it up to 2ltrs with hot water. i put it in a old plastic milk bottle (2 ltr).
When i use it, i put 50ml into a plastic pot and make it up to 200ml with hot water (usually boiling as i have just made a cup of tea!!) and mash it with a old paintbrush. then i pour it in the drum and wash. If i have anything that looks like it will stain ie if i have made spag bol and ds2's top is covered i will rub a bit on the stain before putting it in the wash. I also soaked a few of ds1's hand me downs, as they were covered in bol sauce stains, in a bit of gloop and water before washing in my gloop and they have come out really well.
i love my gloop!!!0 -

Just sharing a little tip re. storage in the fridge.
I use one of those plastic microwave omelette makers to keep half a quiche, half a cheesecake or half of anything else that fits. It is an ideal shape and size, and with the built-in "lid" keeps it fresh and prevents any smells either escaping or reaching the food inside.
Ideal if you live alone and don't eat a whole one of something in one go. OH and I cut a cheesecake into four, and save two portions in the fridge for the next night.I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe
