Also, if you have a very sour fruit to cook with, and don't want to add TOO much sugar, you can add a little bicarbonate of soda to reduce the acidity and reduce the need for so much sugar. (It can also be helpful if you're making tomato soup, apparently.)
Of course it probably plays hell with the vitamin C levels, because vitamin C (ascorbic acid) will be partially neutralised by the alkali too, but it depends what your priorities are. There are other nutrients in fruit as well as vitamin C, and you can always eat an orange later.A penny saved is a penny gained0 -

It's easier to cut corned beef if it's chilled before opening the tin, the hardest part of this is thinking ahead and remembering to put it in the fridge, so now I put it in the fridge as soon as it's bought then it's always ready to go0

Don't add salt to your vegetable cooking water. It just gets poured away, people can add their own, and also it is healthier to cut down on it.
Don't get the vacuum cleaner out for a few crumbs, use a dustpan and brush.
When eating out or in a cafe, take the amount of sauce or sugar sachets that you might reasonably have used, and if you don't use them all, take them home. Better be a bit discreet with this one thoughI haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe
