It's very sensible to change the batteries in your smoke alarm long before they run out. The best time (easy to remember) to do it is when the clocks change in spring and autumn. The batteries will still have plenty of life left in them and can be used for other gadgets0

You can make tablemats out of your childrens art work by taking it to a print shop to be laminated, a nice present for grandparents too0

You can prevent the crust of your pie browning too much on the edges by covering it with a foil pie plate that you've cut the centre out of.0

You can stop a door slamming on little fingers by throwing a towel over the top edge of the door0

Eggs will keep longer in the fridge if they are not put into the egg racks in the door, they get shaken around umpteen times a day and the temperature fluctuates on them each time the door opens. You will be surprised how long they are perfectly useable after the use by date has passed, as was pointed out in a previous post you can tell if they are still fresh of they don't rise in a bowl of water, if they do there is a build-up of gas in them, if they lay down they are fine for baking etc0

It is easier to clean the far side of your bath with a soft floor mop, saves reaching over0

If you have a TV in the kitchen with a remote control it can get very messy when you are baking etc. Put it in a freezer bag and sellotape it neatly at the back, it lasts for ages before having to be replaced0

Dont chuck your old worned battery's, they can still be used for the clocks. Unless there were originally from the clocks!0
