The tops of your kitchen cabinets can get very dusty and grubby. You can speed up the spring cleaning by laying a roll of discarded wall paper or greaseproof paper over the tops, no-one will see and they are easily changed for fresh ones0

I was using white spirit to clean around the shower tray prior to applying the silicone around the edges, managed to knock the bottle over and discovered that it was a far better cleaner of the enamel than any of the expensive branded sprays we used to use such as Mr Muscle and Cillit Bang (daft name anyway!)0

To get rid of cooking smells, put 1-2 drops of essential oil (I like lemon or peppermint) on a damp cloth and microwave for 1 minute. When cool I give the cupboards a quick wipe too.37 mrstwins squares, 6 little bags, 16 RWB squares, 1 ladies cardi, 4 boobs, 20 baby hats, 4 xmas stockings, 1 scarf, 4 prs wristwarmers0

It's best to water your garden at night rather than in the morning, if you water at night the water will get further down to the roots, in the daytime some of it will evaporate in the sunlightIf I screw my eyes up tight I can just about see where you're coming from0

We would all like to support our local shops but if you are on a tight budget they are not the best places to go if you run out of something vital in between the weekly supermarket shop. It's not a good idea either to go to the supermarket 'just for a few things' midweek because you may come out with extras.
The solution is easy - never run out of things! It can take a while to build up, but ideally you need to have 2 of everything, one that is in use and one in the cupboard, I have duplicate things such as washing tablets, foil, cling film, breakfast cereals, baked beans, washing up liquid, toothpaste etc and these get replaced when I finish the one that is in use - not when the one that is in the cupboard is used (I say cupboard but you could store things in a box under the bed in the spare room etc) Building up your groceries this way means that you only need the corner shop for fresh goods midweek, you still support them, but you look after your budget too. Also, if you ever have a week when you can't get to the supermarket for whatever reason you have a good back-up store in place.0 -
If you want to keep bags of ice cubes in the freezer for when the warm weather comes, just shake a little salt over them, it will stop them sticking together.37 mrstwins squares, 6 little bags, 16 RWB squares, 1 ladies cardi, 4 boobs, 20 baby hats, 4 xmas stockings, 1 scarf, 4 prs wristwarmers0

Use the net bags that washing tablets come with to hold small items in your dishwasher, things like small lids, cutters and icing nozzles are all kept safely together0
