Before you throw away an old toothbrush, cut the head off and keep it in your handbag. Useful as a nailbrush when out and about and notice a nail or two got a bit mucky. Happens to me all the time.
Toothbrushes are useful to clean around taps, grouting, and items of jewellery.

When you boil potatoes, do not throw away the water. Use it to clean your cutlery. Even silver comes up nicely.
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.
  • As well as the usual vegetables to cut for crudites like carrots, celery and peppers you can also cut sticks out of the big central ribs of summer cabbage

Dissolve some Calgon (powder or tablets) in hot water, either in a glass bowl or in the sink. Place a sheet of aluminium foil in the water, put your silver on it and leave for approx 30 mins. Then polish with a dry tea towel or other cloth. The cloth can get black marks, so reserve one of your cloths just for this purpose.

One of the nice things of this method is that all the nooks and crannies get sparkling clean, without much effort.

For stubborn patches, use a bit of toothpaste and rub with paper [kitchen roll] until shiny. Wash off any residue under the tap and dry with tea towl/dry cloth.

Cheap washing soda crystals also work very well with this method ;)

  • Buy milk when it's marked down because it's going out of date and freeze it. It lasts ages. Just defrost and shake before use.

Use any water you've cooked veg in to add flavour and nutrients to soup or rice.

Plan your meals before you get your shopping.

Make double what you'd eat and freeze the rest for a quick meal.

Don't food shop when you're hungry.

When reheating food, keep the lid on while you're bringing it up to the boil. It'll get there quicker and stop the flavour escaping. (You'll still need to take the lid off to stir it though or it'll stick.)

If you are always in a rush in the morning, prepare a pack up in the evening.
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.
