Why would anyone care more about what happens to their useless body when they die, than how their loved ones want to grieve?

Funerals are for the living, not the dead.

I think people forget that funerals arent for the dead , they are for the living . A funeral is closure and helps with the grieving process

My OH insists that he wants to be buried, in spite of knowing how much it upsets me and our children.

I really don't know what I'll do when the time comes.

I think some people might be concerned about the cost of the funeral, as any extravagance is actually paid for by the intended beneficiaries. Also I cant see the point of a funeral if the deceased had no family or the family they did have wanted nothing to do with them.

Is he just saying it to rock the boat or is there a reason why this is so important to him?

I was wondering more why it's so important to pollypenny and their children. I find burial a bit weird but I struggle to imagine how it could be "upsetting", especially to children, unless they've been watching too many zombie films.

Only if the Will makes no provision for funeral costs. If the Will specifies how much should be used to pay for the funeral, or if the deceased bought a funeral plan, then the beneficiaries have paid nothing. In the same way that if the deceased had left £100,000 to the cats' home, the residual beneficiaries haven't paid for the donation to the cats' home. Your inheritance is what the Will says it is, no more.

Yes, me too. I can see it causing quite a commotion when I'm gone if anyone tries to suggest burning me.

  • There are several companies offering a private funeral and disposal of ashes. Just Cremation is one.

Well... he's never going to know, and it won't make any difference to him...

No, but it will to other people who know that he doesn't want to be cremated. It's really not very nice when a family member cares enough to express a wish and those in charge go against that once they're dead.
