So we ended up just having to pick a sandwich at an M&S food place on the services. I couldn't see any on wholemeal bread, but thought I'd chosen quite well from what was available - chicken and bacon on brown bread, which was under 400 calories and 'amber rated' for fat content, and at least the chicken would be 'free', I thought.
Boy, was I wrong ! I I later looked in the sandwich section of the food optimising book and saw it says a generic chicken and bacon sandwich is a whopping 27 syns! About the worst one I could have picked !
Was it the M&S Count on us range? If so it's only 12.5 syns.
Also if you aint sure on syns, they suggest 20 calories is one syns, and so under 400 calories would be 20 syns tops, and that assumptions syns every calorie, where as some of the sandwich would have been free foods.Zebras rock0 -
Hi all  I was thinking about you all this morning so thought I'd pop and wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year as I've been absent so long!
You're all doing so well on your journeys, a massive well done :T
Things have been a bit up in the air here for the last few months but hopefully things are now settling down and I'm definitely ready to put 2017 behind me and look to a fresh start in 2018. Let's hope this year coming will be a better one :j
Anyway I hope you're all fantastic, and I hope that you all have a wonderful (if not too indulgent) Christmas.
Much love xxMortgage amount at 31/12/2011 £166,050 now £0 as at Sept 21 - 15yrs 4 months early.0 -

Yes, that's what I was thinking too. It wasn't a 'count on us' one unfortunately - there wasn't a great deal of choice there. But it was definiitely under 400 calories so as you say 20 syns at the very most.
It just seems like an anomaly where the syn value quote for the whole seems far more than the constituent parts (2 slices brown bread, chicken breast, bacon and I imagine a thin scrape of margarine - it didn't have any mayonnaise on it).0 -

Great to see you shala. I think of you often. Don't be a stranger.:xmassmile
Hate to say this but the M&S sandwich is listed online as 27.5 poohsticks.:( The 20 cals is just a rule of thumb so I'm more likely to believe the worst. I suppose as it's never wholemeal that'd be 12 syns, maybe not all fat from bacon, skin on chicken, spread, surprised there was no mayo as they generally use that to keep it moist. Such a shame as a cooked breakfast is quite SW friendly but not worth bumping the car for!;)0 -

back from holiday. potentially facing a gain of everything I'd lost so far. not letting it get me down though as it's Christmas. ready to hit the ground running everyday until Christmas and then to definitely start afresh in the new year. healthy goals wise I'd like to lose 7lb a month which should be too hard however I'll take what I can get!************************************

Thanks for confirming that anyway - at least it was straight after I've weighed in so I've got a week to adjust for the syns accordingly.
I'll know to avoid if I'm in that same situation in future - as you say, I'd lined up a nice low-syn breakfast of baked beans, mushrooms and lean bacon if only it hadn't have been for the weather.
Edit: the annoying thing is that having looked now it would have been as cheap both syns-wise and financially to have avoided the sandwich and gone to MacDonalds and have a warming McMuffin, hash brown and black coffee!0 -
Lovely to see you Shala. Hope you are taking care of yourself.
Welcome back from holiday Lush. Don't stress too much about the holiday weight. I have weigh in tonight after a week of 6 parties. A gain is guaranteed but the question is how much.
Taster night tonight, and my recipe I've made up is absolutely gorgeous. Sage and onion stuffing balls.
2 Lean pork steaks, 4 slices HB bread, 1 onion, lots of fresh sage and one egg all blitzed into a mush. Moulded into ball and put in an edged tray, pour some chicken stock over it and bake to cooked.
I think they taste exactly like stuffing, although my daughter says they taste like sausageZebras rock0 -
Evening everyone.
Thanks for the chart Kathryn - glad you had some positive news re your health - and very well done Poohsticks on SOTW.
Todays menu
B Bacon poached egg beans tomatoes and 1 slice wholemeal toast
Snack Banana and Alpen light
L (Just had it, another busy day) Roast beef sandwich (syns for extra bread) tangerine
D JP with leftover speedy chilli and salad
Trying to eat up bits and bats before the dreaded Christmas food shop. As we're only home Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, I won't be going OTT. We've agreed the Christmas Day menu which I can do with very few syns if I can avoid pudding ..oh, but the cheese...and the wine...never mind, it's once a year isn't it? I haven't eaten my favourite blue cheese in nearly a year so I'm going to have it.!0 -

Well done p00hsticks on being slimmer of the week :T:T:T:T:T
The nutrients in McD's food is poor - I think you made the best choice with the sandwich.
I probably should admit that in my 48 years I have had one meal at McD and felt sick for 2 days.:(:(:( I am not a fan!
