which saucepans to buy?

I love Le Creuset too and don't mind the weight - otherwise some good stainless steel ones (but not non-stick) which can also go in the oven as it's useful to start something off on the hob and then finish it in the oven without changing pans. I have heard TK Maxx can be good for bargains. ICM Le Pentole and Allclad are good brands but not cheap - wait for the sales perhaps?"The happiest of people don't necessarily have the

Another vote for Le Creuset - not just for Rayburns. I've just got a gas hob and apart from my pressure cooker, only pans I use. Agree about them being heavy.0

I have wonderful good-looking quality pans. Stainless steel le creuset tri ply. Even porridge just wipes off. I bought them here

good on all hobs including induction and best of all will simmer on the lowest gas setting0 -
By the way amazon have the small (18cm) Le Creuset casserole on offer - I use these as saucepans (for risottos, soups etc) as well as using it as a casserole dish. I find the bigger sizes (22 and 24cm) more useful though for bulk cooking (for guests or to freeze some) but the 18cm one is fine when cooking for 2 people.

Le creuset, both cast iron and stainless steels (watch amazon they sometimes have great deals)...I prefer the casseroles in cast iron and the saucepans in stainless steel. Get the biggest casseroles you can afford some of the smaller ones can be a bit fiddly and not great for batch cooking.
I second the TK Maxx recommendation - some bargains to be had there.

How about a Remoska? Have you read the thread? They're great moneysavers and very versatile.

I've got a set of stellar pans my parents gave me about 12 years ago and they are going strong and still look great. They have survived all kinds of good, bad and indifferent cooking, a house move, and being drummed on by toddlers! Not sure how much they cost now but I remember they paid £100 for the set which seemed like masses at the time but turned out to be a great deal as I haven't needed to add to the set over the years. I also have some le creuset pieces for the oven but haven't needed saucepans. I would wonder about them being too heavy, esp as my kids learn to cook.0

I have THESE from John Lewis. They are 15 years old now and still look like brand new. I bought the sizes I wanted and a plus point was they are dishwasher proof too.
They have been used and abused. They made a great drum kit for my little man many years ago. :rotfl:£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........
