I am looking for recommendations for inexpensive stainless steel pans (not non stick) that are not too heavy for my 82 year old mother. She doesnt have a lot grip in her hands so she prefers not to use an oven glove which means that handles etc should not get hot. She would prefer a proper handle on the lids as knobs are getting more difficult for her.

    Thank you
  • If I ever need pans in the future I will be buying hard anodised pans. I have a set of these at the moment that are over 20 years old!! They got passed on to me from a friend who was moving abroad. They are absolutely super, soooo easy to clean and nothing sticks! They've had some really heavy use over the years but still look as good as new. Saying that I did buy an Ikea365 frying pan for about £14 a couple of years ago and I really can't fault it.

Not sure if I'm being too fussy here but I'm looking for a stainless steel set of pans too.
I have an Ikea 365+ set at my place in Spain and I love them except for two things, they do not have glass lids and the handles get very hot when cooking.
So as replacements for my pans here I would like
    -Stainless Steel
-Handles that don't get hot (I don't know if this means that I need Silicon inserts of if someone has experience of a set of pans with another sort of handle that does not get hot, by virtue of the way they are attached or something else)
-Glass lids, preferably again with handles that don't get hot
    -Strainers built into the lids
-Lids that fit nice and snug so that as things are simmering the lids don't rattle, making a lot of noise
    -Dishwasher safe

I only want all of these things because I have seen them independently on different sets of pans as I have been looking and surely it is not too much to ask of one manufacturer to have all of the best features in one set of pans

I don't mind too much if they are reasonably expensive, the improved cooking of stainless steel pans coupled with the convenience of these features will make it worthwhile

    TIA

    David

Has anyone got the Ready Steady cookware Bistro saucepan set? Just wondered if anyone could tell me if they are heavy to use.

I bought my wife the Ready Steady cookware 5 piece Bistro saucepan set about 4 months ago. They are a very good set of pans with comfortable handles and lids that don't get hot(silicone on them) very handy lids you can use as a colander for pasta or rice. I don't think they are to heavy for S/Steel as the encapsulated base is aluminium not copper. They have a 25 year guarantee. The only minor quibble is the frying pan is not non-stick. I shall be using them to cook the Christmas dinner, instead of my wife cooking it.(I've been retired over 5 years, plenty of time to learn to cook which I enjoy) using the excellent Jamie Oliver DVD ''Jamie's Christmas'' from 2 years ago.If you want to buy them get them from Wilkinson or Argos as they are cheaper than Amazon.

About two years ago I splashed out on some expensive stainless steel saucepans after having used non-stick for years. I have looked after them carefully but am getting fed up with food sticking in them. Do other people have this problem with stainless steel? What saucepans do you use and which are best?
We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.

  • I have stainless steel pans - quite cheap from Mr A store and nothing really sticks. Once boiled potatoes dry in them - left to soak and with a pan scrub came up like new. That's the beauty of them compared to non-stick. Non-stick always end up scratched and end up looking dreadful, but you can always get stainless looking like new

Vegetables don't stick but anything in a sauce of any kind does.....
