It is best to have a mixture of the 2. We have stainless steel and use them for cooking veggies - but we also have a few non stick for things like risotto, bolognaise and chilli where you're in danger of things 'catching'.
We actually need to replace our non stick ones - anyone have any recommendations for long lasting ones?0 -

Think you are probably right there. Hope someone can recommend some good ones....We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.0 -
I use stainless steel apart from a small milk pan which I use for scrambled egg, and two frying pans. The smaller of these I purchased about 2 months ago from IKEA 365 range and is excellent and dishwasher safe.somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0

I have one non stick frying pan that I use for frying eggs, omlettes etc everything else is done in either my le crueset casserole or my steel stellar pans. Both were expensive but I've had them for 15 years and going strong. My mum has hers for 30+ years. Stellar pans have copper bases which distribute the heat to avoid hot spots and sticking. I once went out and accidentally left a pan of beans cooking for 3 hours, it was black and on the verge of combusting - once I'd scrubbed the burnt stuff off the pan was fine and lived to cook again!People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

I love my Tefal non-stick pot and pan sets.
I also have stainless steel ones though for boiling and pasta0 -
The best pans I have ever had are Judge Cast. They are being discontinued but are still available. I got mine half price just before Christmas from Peter Jones. They are made from aluminium so they are light and they have non-stick inside and out.
Otherwise, we have got some very reasonable non-stick pans from Tesco
However, I have to confess I got my last pans from Mum. She's a bit of a squirrel. She had two sets of spare pans, unused, on top of the kitchen cupboards, plus all the ones in use in the kitchen. That's about 20 pans in all.
It doesn't hurt to ask.0 -

About two years ago I splashed out on some expensive stainless steel saucepans after having used non-stick for years. I have looked after them carefully but am getting fed up with food sticking in them. Do other people have this problem with stainless steel? What saucepans do you use and which are best?
I use Le Creuset which I've had for nearly 20 years. A drizzle of oil, or a splash of water stops sticking
My MIL bought us a Woll pan recently - that is amazing, and I'm intending to buy another of them :T
I'll add this to the existing thread on the best pans to keep ideas together
