which saucepans to buy?

Well I went with the Viners ones and I hate them.
So much so, I bought some of Tesco's ones which are pukka. :T
The Viners ones had 'forged' handles and they got unbelievably hot. Burnt myself too many times and after banging them together for a bit of light relief (I'm still talking about the pans) I've chucked them at the back of the cupboard.

Bobbadog I am in the same boat as you as I am new house owner. I want to get Le Creuset though ( I have strong arms!) so keeping my eyes peeled for a discount site. Like the sets that you get with 3 saucepans.Spreading the gospel that is Martin Lewis to the future generation....I'm a Home Economics Teacher and being thrifty is the way!:A0 -

I adore Le Cruset, but i'm weak! Amazon and the offers in BBC Good FOod Guide are always very good for Le Crueset though! x0 -
I was in TK Maxx a few years ago and saw some bright orange covered stainless steel saucepans on offer in an incomplete set. The quality was really good and they were made by Wesco, who I've since found out are quite nifty. They were reduced from £300 to £32 pounds. There was another incomplete set also reduced for £35 and we asked if could combine the sets to make a whole. Not only did they agree but they charged us the lowest of the reduced prices!!!!! Never regretted that purchase!Speculate to accumulate, Rodney. He who dares wins.0

You cannot beat TK Maxx for cookware bargains. I have bought a full set of Stella Sabatier knives (Easy to keep razor sharp) with two blocks for £40. The most recent purchase has been a couple of frying pans by an Italian make - Bialetti, which have the most awesome non stick coating you have ever seen, the pair cost £24. They also have some good knives in there at the moment, by Henckels and Wusthoff, but the missus will kill me if I buy any more.0

I got a set of Circulon pans about six years ago as a present. I absolutely love them, they've been used constantly and they're still good as new. And nothing ever sticks to them and they're dead easy to clean (so DH tells me, as I never do the washing up!). I'd definitely recommend them.0

I may have said this earlier in the thread....but we have a collection of Tesco's "finest" stainless steel pans and they are great. I was always a non stick fan but have now learnt to use less heat so have finally worked out that you don't HAVE to have non stick pans for things not to stick!
I've "inherited" a set of Le Creuset saucepans that I'm going to ebay at some point. I find them much too heavy and that's just empty!
I like Le Creuset casseroles - having handles at either side makes them easier to manage but I don't find cast iron as useful in saucepans.
Costco often have good sets of saucepans as well.Piglet
