  • I am about to ditch one of my Le Creuset - which is about 25 years old. I managed to burn something in it and then used a biological washing tablet to remove the residue. Now the inside is rusting! I hate the fact that they are heavy and don't like the DW.

    I'm not sure whether changing my stainless steeel pans is a wise chioce after all now. I've been reading on Amazon about various non stick pans and that after about 3 years they seem to loose the coating. Our pans have, I have to confess, been a real set of workhorses and they still look as new as they ever did. Its just they can stick at times when you have to fry at high heat or casserole on the hob for a period of times.

    I don't like ordinary non-stick pans either coz you're right that after a while the non-stick coating starts coming off. My pans on the otherhand are anodised and even after 4 years look brand new inside and there's no sign of scratching or anything. As I understand it, there's a huge difference between non-stick and anodised in term of longevity (explains it here: http://cookwarebrands.com.au/cookwareGuides.asp?id=31). I would never buy ordinary non-stick again, but luckily these pans will last for years so I won't need to ;)

    They seem to have quite the range and i'm very tempted :)

    All i have to do now is convince the wife. However its not going to be easy after just getting our panasonic 255 breadmaker, a slow cooker and rice maker a few weeks back and having changed a few of our baking sheets :) I thought this MSE was supposed to save me money LOL.

    Seriously though they do look very good pans indeed and as i cook from scratch daily will pay for themselves in ease and cleaning alone. They are quite deep arn't they ? Any idea how deep as i can't find a measurement. Our biggest pan is 22inch and we use that for boiling potato or for large soups etc but its only about 4inch deep.

    I've had a casserole dish and a frying pan. The casserole dish I love:j, the frying pan, I hated. It was far too heavy for me to lift with one hand, took ages to heat up and the non stick coating flaked off.

    i second everything vampgirl has said. they have been reduced as they have been superceeded by the infinite range. they are certainly not budget and i love mine!!!!!

    Hello all.

    In a bid to get sorted, I'm having a "pre-moving in" clear-out of the motorhome and there seems to be all sorts of kitchen and cook ware scattered around the cupboards. One of my intentions is within 6 months to make Jamie Oliver look like a right wazzock, (What, he already does? :D ), so, bearing in mind that space is moderately limited, what would be a good selection of pots and pans to have?

    Appliance wise, there's a three ring gas hob with a grill and a moderately sized oven, a fridge with a tiny freezer compartment but I shall have a chest freezer in the awning, sink/drainer and a fair few cupboards and I intend buying a slow cooker next week. There is in fact everything that you'd have in a kitchen, it's just a bit smaller :o The only limiting factor is the electric supply. As I'm parking on the campsite, I'll be limited to 16 amps, which is about what two electric kettles would draw. Any more and the switch trips.

    If anyone has any thoughts, I am, as always, deleriously grateful.

    I'm working from home today so I just popped into the kitchen and measured them :D The milk pan is 4" deep and the biggest one is 5" deep, the other two are in between. I use the big one for soups, boiling potatoes, and for batch-cooking pasta sauces & chilli.

    I know what you mean about this money-saving thing ending up costing you money, but the wayI look at it its about making the right long-term choices first time so that you don't throw money away on rubbish that you end up having to replace :D

    I do, but as the wife is buying me a new wok today (our old trusty friend of 12 years is finally on its last legs) its going to be a hard battle to convince her :) But i'm working on it :rotfl:
