Hope this isn't a hi-jack, but was wondering if anybody could recommend a set of non-stainless steel pans. Like the OP we're looking at spending about £100 on a set of 5.
Just in case anyone is interested, I have a dog who chases lights, so can't have stainless steel in my kitchen as the reflections send him crazy!:rolleyes:0 -
We're trying to decide which copper-bottomed stainless steel pans to buy....can anyone help?
We've looked at Tesco's finest, and at Sainsbury's own posh brand, Jamie Oliver's one's in Debenhams but the frying pan is non-stick which we don't really want....
We want the regular set of 3 pans + milk-pan, frying pan & skillett that are oven-proof too (Sainsburys aren't oven-proofhas anybody got these that can advise us?)
Thanks in advance0 -
I have le creuset 3 ply stainless steel pans. The outer is stainless steel and they have a core of aluminium that is on the bottom and goes up the sides of the pan, they are great. I haven't got the milk pan yet and I am still using my old fry pan. I haven't seen copper bottomed pans.0

Aren't a lot of them just a thin copper base for aesthetics/marketing and not actually functional though?
Most top restaurants you see on TV seems happy enough with stainless steel so I'm not sure copper is worth it even assuming the bases are of good quality on them...0 -

That's one of our "heated discussion" points.....I've always had stainless (in fact the ones we use are about 13 years old from when I was married, but the handles are just screwed on & keep working loose - to the point where we keep a screwdrived in the kitchen now to tighten the pans up as we use & wash them! DF has a hankering for copper bottoms.....he may get a copper bottom himself if we don't make a decision soon
Intersting info about the Le Creuset pans - we have 4 orange casseroles & would go with the matching pans - if I thought i could lift them when full!0 -
Hi floss
I've added your query onto an earlier thread which covers the merits of various pan makes.

We've had stainless steel saucepans and utensils for years (at least 9) and although they look as new and are pretty reliable they aren't non stick so can cause some problems.
We ordered some tefal non stick saucepans and when they arrived they kinda looked cheap and pretty small (one of our saucepans is 22inch and we use it regular for potatoes etc but the largest in the tefal pack was a smaller 20inch) so we are sending them back.
What do people here use ? Do you prefer stainless steel or non stick. What make do you prefer and do you know of any good deals ?A male chef of 4. My restaurant is always full and i don't need to tout for business.
OK OK I'm a house husband but it did sound better my way :beer:0 -

SKK ... German, with titanium nonstick, had the oldest about 8-10 years and it's still easy to clean. 28cm saute pan, 28cm casserole, large and small pans with lids, These aren't cheap, but were on offer when I got them at different times from Professional COokware.
Also got 2 other stainless ones, med, large and a v.large aluminium (7pt), also have an omelette pan and a 'thin' big nonstick frypan. Pressure cooker and steamer. No slow cooker!"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Interesting! I wouldn't touch Le Creuset with a bargepole. I got 2 frying pans for a wedding present and they were kN*****ered in no time at all... and I wasn't careless with them. Also got a casserole for wedding present which was OK, but stained badly. Inherited my g'mother's casserole, which was also badly stained. Maybe the quality has improved since then (80's)"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"
