One benefit of stainless steel - if it gets really manky you can clean it with a pan scourer. (My pans are probably around 15 years old, and still perfectly usable, despite many attacks with a metal pan scourer on inside of pan where I have burnt things- I wouldn't say they look brand new, just used), and you can use metal spoons etc. None of this !!!!! footing around with nylon/silicon kitchen utensils

Yes, Viners are an excellent make. I had some for about 15 years then passed them on to DD when she moved into her own flat and they are as good as new (although they were notr non-stick). I took the opportunity to buy some new ones that will work on the induction hob I am getting.

    Thanks snoozer. That's 100% positive feedback! :T :D

What should you normally clean them with then? Just a dish cloth? We use scouring pads on everything in this house! :rotfl:

I reckon Viners are an excellent make too. Properly looked after and barring disasters, a decent set of stainless steel pans should literally last a lifetime.

A thick bottom is nice: in the case of saucepans, it distributes the heat better and means you have to stir the contents less.

However, have you got the right ones in the link? The price is £140 RRP, £70 online and no baking dish. I do like that deep-sided frying pan, though.

No the offer is from some catalogue thing we have at home. Was just trying to find the right ones. :)

Might be worth a little investment then?

I hope I did't give the impression I don't know how to clean pans!! After being married for 33 years I know my way round the kitchen. Normally they go in the dishwasher, but if I have managed to burn something (for some reason it is often carrots boiling dry) then I am not adverse to giving them a good scrub with a pan scourer.

    Hi SS,
On the Viners website if you go to the clearance section there's a 38 piece starter set for £50 which includes pots and pans, utensil and cutlery, might be worth a look. There are some other good buys on there as well, crockery etc. Happy shopping!!

You only need two saucepans (1 litre & 2 litre capacity) and a frying pan (28cm diameter) - that's all I'm using at the moment.

Having said that, that Viners starter set is a real bargain. I'm sorely tempted now, but I don't know where I'd put it all.

    I'm in a quandry now too. I think I've still got a take-away menu in the glovebox ... :)
