3% on Tesco gets you £88 over 12 months, 5% on TSB gets you £74. So, yes, it is.veryintrigued wrote: »This really is impressively poor semi facts and advice.
The Direct Saver with NS&I gives 1% on up to £2,000,000.00.
It is CLEARLY the best savings account and trumps all those accounts paying a pitiful £88 and £74 interest per year.
£20k in interest. :rotfl::grouphug:Official MSE canny forumite and HUKD VIP badge member

And this is relevant because? We were talking about current accounts and direct debit requirements. No one asked your opinion of what the best overall savings account is. These two pay out more than what most of your regular savers do.
Next to no one will even be maxing the NS&I account, and as you claim to be so clever, you'd know that that 20k would be subject to 45% tax, as presumably if you have that much money and can save that much, you're an additional rate taxpayer.0 -
You implied you already had the account, saying "Problem being my account that requires the DD doesnt have a cheque book," that's why I was questioning if a DD had come to an end or been cancelled. You hadn't said you hadn't opened it yet. You've been quite vague about what it is you're actually trying to do and haven't really answered any questions, like when I asked who the account is with that doesn't supply cheque books in order to open with BM.

You may think you sound clever or impressive being rude, but it actually just makes you look bad.
I do already have the account. I havent been vague at all. Others got it.
Why does it matter who the account is with. I normally tick the box that i dont want a cheque book anyway when there is one. It is the 21st century you know.
You're wrong on the tsb/tesco thing both ways. Tsb pays more than that as theres £10 a month cash back for a limited time, but also you can get over 9% on tesco if you're clever about it.0 -
I want 9%. I want to be clever !!! Tell me/us how pleeeeeze. How many TSBs you got ?0

The 9% is in clubcard points. You get points for spending on debit card, so you need a way of using your card without actually spending money. Mind if you do the loophole too much you run the risk of your clubcard being cancelled because of abusing the system. I dont do the full whack, just a bit here & there.
Only got the single TSB as that all youre allowed i think.0 -

Your assumption that someone with a £2m deposit must be earning six-figures is nonsensical. You could be unemployed/not working and have £2m to tuck away in the bank.
Income tax is exactly that, a tax on income, not a tax on capital. So someone could potentially pay only the 20% rate on a small fraction of the £20k interest earned on a £2m deposit.
Not that that really has anything to do with whether TSB or Tesco is best.
My vote is with TSB by the way. Their accounts also come with the added excitement of not knowing if it will be there when you log on to online banking. Good interest rates and the thrill of uncertainty."In the future, everyone will be rich for 15 minutes"0 -
