Has anyone actually set up any DDs on a Santander eSaver or Everyday Saver in the last few days or weeks.

Santander are trying to discourage people from setting up their own DDs - a very pleasant and patient young lady on the helpline told me that yesterday.

She said it can be done but they would prefer you not to.

What they want us to do is to set up Standing Orders instead - which are of course no use to anyone seeking to replace the DDs that they had with Tesco saver accounts.

Presumably that is why there is no mention of DDs in the info section called 'managing your account'.

So Mrs Iceweasel and I have today sent off the forms to set up 5 DDs each.

I shall report back with the results in due course - whether good or bad.

    Three reasons:

    1. Because their staff informed me I could.

    2. I then asked if they could send my 10 x DD mandate forms, they said they can't until I open an eligible account, I opened an eSaver, I re-requested the forms and they sent them out.

    3. They've been set up on my eSaver.

Thanks for that - hopefully Mrs Iceweasel and I will have the same success.

Were you able to find this out online somehow, or did you have to phone up and ask?

I've submitted one form for a brand new e-Saver in branch (didn't want to waste the postage money if it doesn't work ;)) It would be nice to know if the new DD has been set up rather than having to wait until it appears on the account to be debited.

Did you send statements of the accounts too? They won't process the DD mandate form without them. I found out the hard way - a whole month after I sent the forms off.

There are 2 easy ways to find out if it worked, either check your current account to see if a DD mandate has been created (give it a week) or log in to your Santander, go to payments and select 'pull money from external account' (something along those lines).

New to thread so apologies if my point is already covered.

Just opened an AA Easy Saver and a PO Online Saver. To my dismay, both say that you can save regularly by standing order. Is this a recent change away from direct debits?

For Post Office, read the T&Cs...

    https://www.postoffice.co.uk/dam/jcr:d9ad47f9-273d-4efd-b8df-b3cb0e7c985d/online-saver-key-information-pack.pdf

Section 16 (et al) answers your specific question, but probably best to read the full document as you might have missed other important features.

Then do the same for the AA account.

The Post Office account should alow a single DD per account (they call it a linked account in their speak).

AA however haven't offered Direct Debits for years. They did used to offer them when they were using the Birmingham Midshires platform, but since they changed provider, they no longer offer the facility.

Has anyone set up the Santander eSaver to pull more than one DD from the same account ie 2 DDs from Halifax, BOS, Lloyd's etc.
