2 spends to knock of my total for this month, popped into Ald! yesterday for a few bits for last nights tea and breakfast this morning spending £8.88. Did my main shop today also in Ald! and spent £48.08.
I've also done a meal plan to try and use up the odd bits in the fridge and freezer.
Made a lovely tart tonight, using leftovers from my son's birthday party on Sunday. Covered the puff pastry with a layer of pesto, a chopped roasted red pepper from a jar and some sundried tomatoes, added some prosciutto and salami to it and the covered half with brie and the other half with mozzarella, served it with new potatoes and a salad.

Planning cottage pie tomorrow to use up the lonely odd root vegetables in the fridge. Hoping to stretch the pack of mince, are oats better than lentils for dissolving in the mixture?

  • Had my weekly shop delivered and it came to a total of £47.96. Very pleased with that, especially as I had some buffet bits, stuffing and orange juice that I have put away for Christmas. Slowly but surely I am getting prepared. I plan of getting a few bits in with my weekly shop so that by Christmas I will only need to by the fresh stuff.

I have £12.04 left of this weeks budget for my top up shop of milk, bread, fruit etc.

Gosh 'no oven' - that brought back memories. Back in 1982 we bought and moved into a dilapidated old house, no running water, electric or main drains etc. The water came from a well. We bought a generator so we had electric. To get upstairs you had to climb a ladder.

The kitchen had long gone so I made do with old door propped on some breeze blocks as a worktop. We rigged up a shower outside in an old bath (it was summertime). I cooked using a slow cooker, electric frying pan and microwave - two children, and we both worked full time. It was the best part of six months before we had the beginnings of a kitchen and over 10 years to get the house sorted as we did a lot of it ourselves. The mortgage wasn't cheap either an eye watering £1400 per month which was an awful lot in those days.

Over 30 years later I have to say we are somewhat more civilized but we must have passed our 'stupid genes' onto our son as he has just done a similar thing.

£1400 per month in 1982! Wow what part of the country do you live in?

  • Hi everyone,

I am happy to report 2 nsds for the month so far. Shouldn't need anything until Sunday, but may go ys-ing tom evening as the ch will be with their dad. However, I may be too tired, as it's a 12-hour work day, probably with no break, or a 10-20 min break.

Don't seem to have logged my first week's shop last week on here, but basically I'm going for £33 a week as a rough guide, and calling it a 5 week month. The last "week" though, is actually going to work out to be just one day, so any little bits that I go over in the first four weeks, just mean I reduce the last week's budget by that amount and it won't have much of an impact on me hopefully.

I'm doing well so far (for those who see me on here regularly, you'll know I usually have a big stock up shop at the beginning of the month which I've actively tried to avoid this month, plus I tend to overspend a lot!), I spent £35.90 in the week 1, so £2.90 over which will come off week 5, and so far this week I've spent £28.26 when I did most of my shopping last night. My remaining £4.74 for week 2 will just likely be used for fresh veg.

Last night I did most of week 2 shop divided between Mr T, M&5, and A1d1. The only "frivolous" thing I got was a pack of rainbow carrots from M&5 as they looked so pretty, but were of course way overpriced at £2! I also bought a pack of siken tofu to try out... and I stocked up on wholewheat pasta at M&5 as it was on buy one get one half price offer and looked way nicer than the Mr T one... I had some for tea and turned out I liked it a lot more - I think the shape was better.

    Morning All

DH spent £8.57 at L!dl yesterday, in two trips. The duplicated journey isn’t exactly his fault. I’m home sick with the lurgy and, he proposed a takeaway rather than cooking. (At this point, he’d already been into L!dl buying me their thermal leggings and searching for their elusive cooking bacon.) I vetoed the takeaway and suggested L!dl’s salmon en croute (healthier, tasty and considerably cheaper). They didn’t have any so, he bought the Three-Fish-Roast.

That brings our spend so far to £8.57/£155.69 leaving us with £147.12 for the rest of the month.

While I was sitting at home, feeling miserable, I fancied a mug of hot blackcurrent, so dug out an ancient can of Whittard’s Summer Fruit “tea”. I’d dated it, when I bought it in January 2012. It was a bit clumpy but still drinkable. Very sweet, though - lots of visible sugar crystals - so this tin may last me a while yet.

It ain’t what you do, it’s the way that you do it - that’s what gets results!

2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge 66 coupons - 29.5 spent.

    4 - Thermal Socks from L!dl
4 - 1 pair "combinations" (Merino wool thermal top & leggings)
6 - Ukraine Forever Tartan Ruana wrap
    12 - yarn
    1.5 - sports bra
    2 - leather wallet

Hi everyone, hope youre all having a good week.

Pretty awful week for me this week; without going into much detail at all; there was a very exciting reason that I wasn't drinking for the last few weeks and unfortunately that is no longer the case so I haven't been in a very good place at all. Off work and under a blanket is where ive spent most of my time; however hoping to pick myself up today.

Spends a few times however again I have taken these from my own purse this week as I felt it wasn't fair to potentially make our savings suffer as a result.

New house searches and valuation have been ordered though now so I think we are almost there!!

Currently still at £24/100 however not 100% accurate given weve had an extra £13 from my pennies but back to normal today I think.

    Take care all x
