    How strange...

When the site crashed this morning I went to a branch, and they offered me a choice of accounts including the B, which is the one I opened..

    I’m immensely irritated by this.

First, does MSE warn businesses that they’re going to be promoted on the site, so that they can prepare their servers for the inevitable huge demand?

Second, isn’t Clydesdale Bank, you know, a bank. How can it not have servers robust enough to handle the demand. Did they think no-one would be interested in this offer?

    Unimpressed all round.

Patience is a virtue! Checked access from time to time, at 15.38 it worked. A detailed process of course but I'm all done and dusted, the switch organised too!

I called them up to ask about the whole asking for digit 12 of my password when I only used 11 digits, etc and they said that they are not doing any more processing this evening as the 'market leading offer' has caused issues with the IT system.

They are hoping to resolve it this evening and said to try again tomorrow and call them back if it still isnt working.

I suspect their IT department (or whoever it is outsourced to) is going to be busy this evening after an already stressful day...

I've been checking throughout the day but nothing.

Can the B account be managed online using a laptop or is it tablet/smartphone only? (Yes, I'm a dinosaur who still likes to bank using a laptop...)

EDIT - B account applications are also not possible online at the moment.

I believe if you've had a previous incentive to open an account, you can't get this one as well.
That's correct. There was a error in the MSE sent out today, as it said, 'Existing Yorkshire/Clydesdale customers can only get the bonus if you haven't got one from it before' whereas, in fact, nobody can get the bonus if they've had ever one before.
  • Oooh, the Yorkshire one just opened. I applied and it gave me this message:

Unfortunately we couldn’t confirm some of your details
For extra security, we’ve sent a letter with an authorisation code to your home address. When you get it, you can use the code to continue your application.

Is that normal? Should I try applying for the B as well (if it reopens) or will that cause problems.

Wont let you do it online anymore now tells you to go into branch, tried lots of times today, site just not coping. Now given up, cant be bothered to go into town, the whole idea was internet banking. what a bloody fiasco. I'll probably look at M&S now, the voucher offered will come in handy for Xmas, plus savings accout not to bad.
