Unplanned power cut earlier for about half an hour. I was away from my desk, heard the printer restart, and by the time I got back the emergency power had kicked in and everything was up and running. So all working as it should. Battery wasn't full as it had run down a bit overnight, but has now topped up from the solar, and the hot water is hot, and the electricity is back anyway. But nice to know it does what it should!
Plumber informed me earlier that the radiator he'd ordered wasn't going to arrive until Thursday, so he'd fit it when he got back from holiday. I explained that anything not done by the end of this week wasn't going to be done, so to put the pipes in as far as he could and I'd either find someone else to do it or we'd leave it as I don't want holes drilled in the wall etc after decorating/carpet is done. So he's confirmed that a. they have another different one in stock and b. he can do what he was going to do on Thursday tomorrow and pick up either they one he ordered or the one in stock after his dentist appointment on Thursday and get it done then. He's known about this job for months - it's not my fault he refused to discuss dates earlier and didn't measure up until last week (not sure when he placed the order...).
Neighbour has sawed up more bits of tree into logs and stacked them at the back of the workshop.
Pictures collected from framer - worth every penny as they look stunning so I need to get them on the walls.
And I've just been emailed a 2 year guarantee for a mattress cover...
House is cold as the plumber has the windows open, so I need to find some layers before I sit at my desk all afternoon! Salad for lunch isn't helping with this, but it needs eating.2 -

Cup hooks found for the batten/dowel system that allows me to hang a wall hanging, so that can go up sometime (hopefully next week!).
Stuff for CS moved to hall along with some bubble wrap which they may also want. I've taken lots of stuff in old suitcases which I've told them they can keep if they want, and I'll take if they don't. So far they've kept them all. I've also been very clear that if anything in my donation is unsuitable/will incur disposal costs I will collect and dispose of it - they don't seem to have found anything worth making the effort for.
Pulled out all my walking boots and running shoes. One pair of walking boots put aside to try using over the next few weeks to decide about. All the rest washed. I know one pair of boots is very uncomfortable and gave me blisters, and trail shoes aren't really ideal for walking in. It's hard admitting that it's probably time to get rid of my running stuff, but I haven't run since I had covid in 2025 and based on my current health, I'm unlikely to get back to it anytime soon. I should probably sort out the rest of my running stuff too. I'm sure someone can make use of it if I send it to the CS.
Stinky is at daycare and photos suggest he's enjoying himself. He was certainly excited to see the dog walker and his friends when she turned up to collect him! Cats are unhappy about the noise from the plumber.
Videos have been sent to the cat feeder people proving that it can't detect microchips, so hopefully that will be resolved soon. I even bought new batteries (and videoed them being inserted) as they insist on specific brands for the testing!
Plumber is here and getting on. Having got through a few domestic tasks I should probably get some work out of the way.2 -
I may be facing the same decision around running greenbee - although I did run a few weeks ago with seemingly no ill effects at the time, both knees complained resoundingly from a few days after and for a full week - 4 days of full dose ibuprofen has seemingly sorted them out, and yes, it *could* be coincidence, but it seems a bit far fetched that it might be. I think my current decision is around whether I try a concerted period of strength work (and get back to regular yoga) and then try again with the running.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Parcels have been arriving today, so I have most of the lights, and a few other bits I'd ordered.
Dog went to daycare and has come back very happy, but as usual quite subdued once he's let me know he's home and had his supper. He loves it, but I do worry he gets too worn out. The dog walker agrees that he's looking a bit skinny, so I need to up his rations.
No answer from the cat feeder people, so I'll chase tomorrow.
All the small bits of tree have been chainsawed by a neighbour who just wants a contribution to a new chain for his chainsaw and nothing for his time. Trying to connect with a different tree surgeon to do the big chunks, but he keeps calling in the afternoons when I'm in meetings (I do tell people when I leave messages that I'm contactable before midday... and if they don't leave messages when they call me it gets difficult to communicate). I'll try him again tomorrow.
Plumber is nearly done. Lots of 22mm pipework in and two radiators hung. Towel rail going in tomorrow. He's also lagged the pipes, which is unusual for plumbers - particularly as there is insulation between the floor and ceiling. I'm pretty sure none of the existing pipework is lagged!
I need to get to the CS and supermarket tomorrow. Friday I'm meeting a friend in the morning for a walk, Saturday I'm over at my mum's, and Sunday I'm hopefully meeting friends for a walk. So nothing will get done at home! Electricians start on Monday, carpenters on Tuesday. I do need to do some laundry, and could do with spending some time in the garden, but I'm not sure when that will happen!
Dog says it's time for bed...2 -
Hmm, reference to 'walks' noted with mild envy. My steps really need to be at home getting stuff cleared.I am glad the plumbing challenge got sorted, all very frustrating. My mortgage free diary: +++ Divide by Cucumber Error. Please reinstall universe and reboot+++

Hardly any steps yesterday redo, as Stinky got his in at daycare! Not sure when the plumber will arrive today as he has a dental appointment this morning and needs to pick up the towel rail. I need to do the CS drop off and do a bit of shopping. I’d planned an early dog walk and then straight into town for CS opening time, but had a terrible night (the cats were complaining about me disturbing them. Woke around midnight with a sore throat and struggled to sleep after that. Have developed a headache and some aches and pains, so just need to make it through the day … have to tidy up for the cleaner as there isn’t much of the house accessible to het right now! I may need to cancel tomorrow and the weekend (Sunday’s friend is immunosuppressed so that’s definitely off if there is any chance this is an infection). On the plus side, we all had a lie in. Dog has been emptied and gone back to bed. One cat is out. One is refusing to believe it is morning. The bed in here is smaller than my usual one, which definitely impacts on quality of sleep when both cats decide to spend the night with me, and the mattress isn’t as comfortable. But it’s a nice room, I’ve had some ideas about how to improve it, and the view of the copper beech outside is lovely.2
