I won't give numbers on mine as it was started after the start date for this and it doesn't seem fair to extrapolate too much, but performance has run slightly ahead of VLS80 (not to a significant degree).
What I find more interesting is the reasons for under and overperformance, my geographical bets of being underweight NA has definitely weighed on performance over the last year and a bit, fund selection within markets has generally been ok so far, and oddly my global funds have outperformed pretty much everything!
3i infrastrufcture has probably been my star though (in terms of return v risk over an admittedly short period), didn't get too badly in all the volatility and has delivered a solid return as well.0 -
Another steady eddy month for gold. Being a gold holder is usually very boring, but it does allow you time to keep a beady eye on the eggs in the basket.
Not a great deal on the geopolitical and geoeconomics front to explain why the gold price is buoyant and still hovering near £1k an ounce.
The continuation of the citizenry hanging nonsense out to dry was seen again in Ukraine, when the crook who replaced the last crook was deposed by a comedian. And people say gold bugs are nutters!
Me and friends had a pleasant evening recently discussing the scenarios if the Country of Vaticana, the smallest country in the world, found the biggest motherload of gold under the Sistine Chapel and decided to use the proceeds to weaponise the faith.....Don't laugh, look what happened in Ukraine.
Anyway, a year ago gold fixed at £942, and was £987 yesterday. It's recent high was £999
5 years back the high was £792, and 10 years back it was £610..._0 -
Finellah 13.3%
FinellahVLS80 10.9%
Vanguard all cap 13.5%
Had a bit of a change around from all OEICs to a mix of OEIC/IT/ETFs so had some one off trading costs that will hopefully be recouped in reduced platform fees in future. Note that my Finellah portfolio includes platform/trading costs but VLS80 and Vanguard all cap don't. Will post updated portfolio in the other thread.0 -
